Beautiful 380SL. Regularly serviced by a Mercedes mechanic, runs great and has always been garagedI purchased the car in 2007 with 54k miles and I have lovingly driven the car an additional 13K highway miles on beautiful California days.  The Air Conditioning works well.  The soft top is great.  The hard-top gleams (not sure it was used before I owned it).  Paint is beautiful and is still a deep red.  The leather interior is fantastic.  Car comes with a lot of original items like the manuals, tool kit and first aid box. I had a Mercedes mechanic replace the brakes, calipers, brake hoses and bleed the system.  Replaced the rear main seal and reseal the transmission pump.  Replaced the valve cover gaskets.  Replaced the spark plugs, distributor and rotor.  Installed new sub-frame and motor mounts.  Installed a new muffler.  Replaced shift column gear bushings and thermostat.  Replaced water pump, belts and gasket.  Basically all the aforementioned work took place in the last 13,000 miles.  Occasionally the ABS light comes on but I have not taken the steps to address.

With the addition of two children to our family, I find that I have less and less time to enjoy this beautiful two seater and it's time to sell it to someone that can. The car is sold "As-is" and like any automobile purchase I highly recommend that you inspect the car before placing a bid.  I have full confidence in the car but like any vehicle of its age, it needs regular TLC and an owner that understands the attention the car requires as it ages its way to a classic. I am happy to work with whatever shipping company you choose if you are not claiming the car in person.  Also, I am throwing in two items not pictured.  I have a windscreen that detaches which I will include and a rack to store the hard-top.  Please email if you have any questions.

Upon the close of the auction, a $2,000 non-refundable deposit is due within in 24hrs. The balance is due within 5 days of the auction close and the vehicle must be picked up at that time unless other arrangements are made.

Contact me to setup an appointment to view the car and bid with confidence.

Thank you.

Mercedes-Benz intros long-wheelbase E-Class for China

Thu, 25 Apr 2013

Long-wheelbase sedans are a pretty hot commodity in China, and to keep up with the competition, Mercedes-Benz has introduced an extended version of the 2014 E-Class sedan at the Shanghai Motor Show. Audi, BMW, Volvo and even Cadillac offer extended versions of sedans specific to the Chinese market, and now the E-Class L, shown off in E400L guise, will give luxury sedan buyers in China yet another option.
Compared to the standard 2014 E-Class sedan, the new China-spec E-Class L has been stretched by 5.5 inches - all of which goes to the rear-seat passengers. According to an article on China View from earlier in the year, the market for chauffeur-driven cars is growing in the Asian nation, so automakers need long-wheelbase models like the E-Class L in order to fully compete. As for what powers this stretched E-Class, it's available in three models: the diesel E260L, the V6-powered E300L and the E400 Hybrid.
The redesigned E-Class and the all-new A-Class are just the first of 20 new Mercedes-Benz products that will be introduced into the Chinese auto market by 2015. Scroll down for the full press release on long-wheelbase E.

Why all of this year's F1 noses are so ugly [w/video]

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

If you're a serious fan of Formula One, you already know all about The Great Nosecone Conundrum of 2014. Those given to parsing each year's F1 regulations predicted the strong possibility of the so-called "anteater" noses as far back as early December 2013. Highly suggestive visual evidence first came after Caterham's crash test in early January, with further proof coming as soon as Williams showed a rendering of the FW36 challenger for this year's championship. That car earned a name that wasn't nearly so kind as "anteater."
Casual followers of the sport - or anyone who gets the feed from this site - probably don't know what's happening, except to wonder why the current year's F1 cars are led by appendages that would make Cyrano de Bergerac feel a whole lot better about himself.
The short answer to the question of ugsome F1 noses is "FIA regulations and safety." The reason there are various kinds of ugsome noses is simpler: engineers. The same boffins who have given us advances including carbon fiber monocoques, six-wheeled cars, double diffusers and Drag Reduction Systems are bred to do everything in their power to exploit every possible freedom in the regulations to make the cars they're building go faster - the caveat being that those advances have to work within the overall philosophy of the whole car.

Maybach officially discontinues all models for 2013

Tue, 14 Aug 2012

The word "Maybach" has joined the long list of synonyms for the word "kaput." Mercedes-Benz released the price list for the 2013 models of its super-luxury sedans, with the price column simply stating "Discontinued" for each one of them.
The 2012 models, should there be any left for 11th-hour buyers, maintain the increased MSRPs that Daimler slapped on them late last year after it was known the brand would be terminated next year. But you might still be able to wrangle that $100,000 rebate if you ask nicely, or in Russian, or have Rick Ross ask for you.
It shouldn't be too long before we see the ultimate version of the next generation S-Class, the S600 Pullman, that will replace Maybach. Intriguingly, it's said the Pullman will be offered with every S-Class engine, even the four-cylinder diesel.
