VERY RARE, FEWER THAN 80 OF THESE MERCEDES PICKUP'S WERE BUILT OF WHICH ONLY 3 ARE KNOWN TO EXIST WORLDWIDE !!!"

Up for grabs here is an original, very limited production 1955 MERCEDES BENZ 170 S-V-D DIESEL Pickup truck. Fewer than 80 of these trucks were built and of that 80 only 3 are left known to exist worldwide. While this pickup would be a relatively easy restoration it would make an awesome Resto-Rod. I have owned this little gem for over 30 years and was driving it up to 1989 at which time I had the output shaft bearing in the transmission blow apart taking with it the rear transmission cover. It took me a couple years to cross reference that cover to find that they used the transmissions from a 300 Diplomat in these trucks and while I eventually did get a replacement cover I never got around to restoring the truck as intended. The truck has been kept in inside storage ALL  the time since it was disabled. The only parts missing from this pickup are the front bumper and rear bumperette's, the clock and the floor mat. The truck is otherwise complete and original right down to the semiphore's which incidentally are in perfect condition. I have over the years collected up most all the parts for a complete engine rebuild including new Mahle pistons, Gelco main and rod bearings, a complete gasket set, new outside door handles w/key, new horn ring, new axel boots and on and on. The engine is an OM 636 Diesel attached to a four speed manual column shift which is one of the easiest and smoothest shifting manual transmissions built in that era. As this truck was first shipped to a Mercedes dealer in Australia to be used as a parts delivery truck it sports right hand steering. Truck shows no obvious cancer issues floors are solid as are the floors in both battery boxes ( takes two 6 volt batteries ) and while the driver door does have to be lifted slightly to latch, the passenger door shuts perfectly as would be expected of a new truck. I have listed this truck in an auction format with a modest reserve given it's rarity. Due to e-bays limited options about title I entered "clear title" however there is no title, I do however have all the import documents in hand. I would consider taking as part trade a very low mile Buell 1125 CR, BMW S1000 RR or interesting Ducati. I do have other interests as well but due to my age and current disabilities I am not looking for any projects. If you wish to speak to me about this truck please e-mail me your phone number and include which time zone you are calling from and a good time to call you back. For an international sale I can arrange shipping (at the buyer expense) to either a Texas port or California port which ever is closest to the trucks destination. Shipping from that port must be arranged by the buyer. Buyer has 30 days free inside storage before the vehicle needs to be removed and for a longer period with prior arrangements. A $1000.00 deposit will be expected through PayPal within 24hr's of listing end and the balance in cash, cashiers check within 5 days of listing end.

France formally moves to ban Mercedes vehicles using contested refrigerant

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

That didn't take long. Shortly after a French administrative court gave the French government a ten-day window to reconsider its ban on registrations of Mercedes-Benz A-, B- and CLA-Class cars using the prohibited R134a refrigerant, the government cited an EU directive to formalize banning the sale of the cars. The country's environmental ministry said that registrations "will remain forbidden in France as long as the company does not to conform to European regulations," meaning so long as they do not use the approved R1234yf refrigerant.
Daimler had won the administrative court decision by challenging France's application of a "safeguard" provision in which the EU allows a country to block sales of cars that would "seriously harm the environment." In spite of Daimler's victory, France has cited that very provision as basis for the continuation of the ban.
Daimler got permission from Germany's KBA federal motor authority to keep selling cars with the coolant banned by EU politicians, and is using that national permission as the right to sell the cars throughout Europe. Meanwhile, above that battle, German politicians are asking the EU to let Mercedes sell the cars in France while the KBA does more testing, at the same time as the EU is threatening Germany with repercussions if it doesn't bring the KBA and Daimler into line.

Paul di Resta returns to DTM with Mercedes

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Some drivers manage to make the transition from one form of motor racing into another, and some run into trouble. Take Paul di Resta, for example. The promising young Scottish driver dominated Formula 3 racing in Europe in 2006, then moved over to Germany's hugely competitive DTM touring car series where he finished second in 2008, third in 2009 and first in 2010. But things didn't go as smoothly for Paul - cousin to retired Indy champion Dario Franchitti - when he moved in to Formula One with the Force India team.
In three years on the grid, he failed to score a single podium finish. Little surprise, then, that Force India opted not to renew his contract for this season. Left without a ride, di Resta is now going back to DTM with longtime supporter Mercedes-Benz, testing the new C-Class touring car today in Portugal. It's good news for Mercedes, which is celebrating 120 years in motor racing this season and, with 2005 champion Gary Paffett also on board, can now count two former champions on its DTM roster.
We wouldn't count Paul out of F1 for good, though. When he won the DTM title four years ago, he was also moonlighting as Force India's test driver, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him pull similar double-duty with the Mercedes F1 team (or another Benz-powered outfit) this year before spring-boarding back into grand prix racing in the future. At 27 years old, he may not have been the youngest driver on the grid this year, but he's still got a good few years ahead of him.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.
