Completely customized 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 Camper Van. Ready for your mountain bikes, all of your gear,
groceries, dog, etc.!

Exterior: New BFG All-Terrain tires with only 3k miles on them. Paint and body in excellent shape. All
accessories professionally installed. Fiamma F65 Awning for keeping the sun off. Most camper vans attach these
awnings to a roof rack, which allows water/rain to flow between the awning and the rack, down the side of the
vehicle (not keeping you or your things dry). We chose to avoid this by attaching to the factory rail area to keep
it flush - much better for staying dry and comfortable while hanging out under the awning. Aluminess brand ladder
for accessing the top of the van/solar panels. Two 100-watt solar panels on the roof link to a 2000 watt Magnum
Inverter, which includes a mount monitor inside the cabinet, so you can see your voltage. This all charges a 255
amp/hr Lifeline battery. Shore power connections (30amp) for when you are not in the wild, and want to plug up to
an RV campsite/your friend's house.

Many of the windows were additions to the original vehicle (driver side kitchenette window with vents, both rear
bed windows which slide to vent air while sleeping, and the back door rear windows). To be able to open the rear
doors easily while still carrying a bike rack, we added the Yakima Swing Arm rack attachment, which will fit any 2"
rack you may prefer (comes with a Kuat bike rack).

Interior Build: Top-of-the-line Kenwood Excelon stereo and sound system which sounds amazing, comes with touch
screen, Bluetooth capability, and CD player. We upgraded the factory door speakers, and added 2x coaxial speakers
and a 10" subwoofer. Festival ready!

Driver and passenger seats swivel around to the living area. Beautiful brushed aluminum LED puck lighting on the
ceiling with a dimmer to adjust the brightness. His-and-hers adjustable reading lights by the bed, with nearby USB
ports and 120v outlet for keeping electronics charged. LED strip color-change lights with remote control under the
cabinet, and an additional USB/120v behind the driver's seat and next to the kitchen counters for appliances and
phone charging while on the road.

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold

Wed, 08 Feb 2012

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.

Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.

Mercedes-Benz to build new ML coupe-crossover in Alabama in 2015

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

Mercedes-Benz will expand its factory in Tuscaloosa, AL, to build the ML Coupe, a new crossover that will join its lineup in 2015. Mercedes will also ramp up production to build facelifted versions of the M-Class and GL-Class SUVs, lifting the factory's total production capacity to about 300,000 units annually in 2015. It made 185,000 vehicles in 2013. In addition to SUVs, the Tuscaloosa site also makes the C-Class sedan.
The plans come as part of Mercedes' strategy to capitalize on Americans' increasing demands for SUVs. The company said the SUV market was up 12 percent in first half of 2014, and expects it to grow at twice the rate of the regular market in 2015 and 2016.
"We are seeing climbing demand for SUVs." - Dieter Zetsche
