A ready to go 1964 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404 This German military vehicle would make a great addition to a collection or can be used for farms, ranches, tours or some off-road fun! Unimog is a range of multipurpose auto four-wheel drive medium trucks produced by Mercedes-Benz. In 1955, the first Unimog 404 S series was produced. The primary customer of the 404 S was the Federal West German army, which was re-arming in the face of the Cold War. The 404 was intended to be a mobile Fire Pumper Truck. The 404 S is the most popularly produced variant. Mercedes-Benz produced more than 64,000 between 1955 and 1980. This Fire Pumper Truck his in fine shape and is looking for some off-road adventures. After climbing into the cab, you will see the gauges are original and in German, and the seats are with some wear from usage but appear original. The exterior is a Rife Engine Red, with a roof mounted spare and ladder The Unimog has it's fully intact and operation water pump with a significant amount of accessories included as shown including new/never used hoses and fire hose fittings (all accessories shown are included). Pump and hoses work fine, I had the distance at almost 200' range! The engine is a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder OHSC M180II engine that we will note runs on gasoline, not diesel. This engine is mated with an six-speed manual transmission with low and high gear options, and despite its size this beast runs and drives well with minor needs for a complete original operational vehicle! Also please note unit not designed to drive at speeds exceeding 40MPH with current gearing! Mileage on this Unimog currently reads 20,338. K and the VIN is 404115033025. It is being sold on a clear Kentucky title. GET OUT AND DRIVE! Known issues: Some of the lighting is not working, windshield wipers not working, head liner needs replacement, missing the air-filter and mount for carb, large paint chip missing on driver rear side, very little rust! Not aware of any other issues? Winning bid/purchase requires a $1000.00 deposit with in 3 days of winning bid with complete payment by certified check with in 10 days of winning bid/purchase. LA To The Grand Canyon In The Mercedes-Benz Of RVs
Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic [w/video]

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

Maybe you saw our recent blog snippet on a bunch of US journos getting pulled over in the middle of nowhere in Catalunya, Spain for driving a bunch of new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG models. By all accounts, they weren't speeding - which makes me softly guffaw. I was there in that group, yet I had taken the more direct route into the mountains from Barcelona so that I could... well, so that I could go faster. No one hassled me and I had the Autovia all to myself. And it was the goodniks - the team players - who got nabbed because Spain had decided to suddenly enforce the never enforced "must carry an international driver's license" clause of the highway code.
The departing E63 AMG with 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from its M157 5.5-liter biturbo V8 hasn't exactly been poorly received. It isn't as crisp as, nor as pleasantly evil as its C63 AMG kid brother, but we generally accept that the heavier and larger car will always feel, well, heavier and larger.
As part of the 2014 E-Class mid-cycle redesign, Affalterbach decided to give its E63 AMG more power and torque for the occasion. The base car now gives off 550 hp and 531 lb-ft, while the hotter S version I tested (formerly the AMG Performance Pack) produces 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. The other big novelty is that E63 sedans will be available with both rear- and all-wheel drive, while all US-spec E63 wagons will be 4Matic equipped.

Does Alex Rodriguez' Mercedes dealership have a PR problem?

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Alex Rodriguez, in case you haven't heard, is seemingly the new Most Hated Man In Baseball, ostensibly replacing commissioner Bud Selig (for now). Rodriguez was slammed with a 211-game suspension due to his role in the MLB's latest steroid scandal in which "A-Roid," as fans have taken to calling the former superstar, was cited with steroid use and attempts to hide his involvement by "engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate" the investigation, according to the MLB's official report.
Why is this on a car site, then? Because Rodriguez' name is attached Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz in League City, TX. An Ad Age report cites Mercedes-Benz USA in saying that A-Rod owns "about half'" of the dealership. Mercedes, for what it's worth, isn't going to any to any lengths to distance itself from its dealership or its controversial namesake, saying, "We never promoted the fact that A-Rod owned a dealership, so there's really nothing to 'distance' ourselves from. And since his activity is not illegal but rather prohibited by MLB, there's nothing actionable here."
With the scandal still a fresh piece of news and A-Rod's pending appeal, it's difficult to tell what sort of effect, if any, his name will have on the dealership's sales. Ad Age contacted the GM of Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz to get the dealership's view, but no calls were returned. According to Mercedes, any name change is up to Rodriguez and his partner(s) at the dealership. Somehow, though, we think A-Rod has other things to worry about beyond his dealership's name.
