SWEET LITTLE 1968 MERCURY COUGAR! Good condition, very little rust, one very small dent in the drivers-side front quarter panel (see picture). Engine runs great - tons of power and speed. I drove it last summer but not far because the BRAKES NEED WORK. Interior good: no rips, tears. Headlamp covers open and close. Sequential tail-lights work. Good tires. New battery. There is a small bit of rot on the console by the window where there is a defrost vent. It has an air-conditioner, maybe after-market or special order. I don't know if it works (never tried it).

I bought this car three years ago in New Hampshire from my aunt's estate for the then appraised value/price of $5,000. It is originally from Alabama and was stored inside all the while my aunt and uncle owned it (he was a collector). I do not have a title, I was issued a BILL OF SALE by the estate and I registered the car in New Hampshire with only that bill of sale (see registration pic). I was preparing to register it in Tennessee, where I now live, as an antique but have decided to find her a new home where she can get more TLC! I will be happy to answer any questions I can or take more pictures on request. A real eye-catcher!

FYI all of the old registrations we have on file say it is a 1967 but we have been advised that it is actually a 1968. Sorry for any confusion.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
