1969 Mercury Cougar Xr-7 5.0l on 2040-cars
Charleston, South Carolina, United States
1969 Mercury Cougar (Eliminator Model Tribute) Somehow Steppenwolf singing “Get your motor runnin' Head out on the highway…” sounds better on a radio from 1969. You’re going to have a blast in this beautifully restored Mercury Cougar, because now is the right time for you to get the car you’ve wanted for a long time. This Cougar is not an actual Eliminator, but it’s just as badass. It has the original equipment as the Eliminator; from the working ram air cowl and dashboard with tach and clock on the glove compartment, to the overhauled 302 engine. Lots of original equipment; like the spoilers, front and back, the wheels and suspension are original too. Even the pristine leather interior was restored to original specs. Remember those hidden headlights with flip up lids and the sequential tail lights? She’s got ‘em. It also has high performance parts like the water pump, aluminum radiator and suspension bars. This is a trophy winner with the rumble of the custom exhaust and ceramic headers to the Mercury Orange urethane paint that was restored down to bare metal. I’ve only had this clean Texas car for 2 years and can’t bare to part with it, but I don’t have the time to get her on the road as much as she deserves. Note: The carb runs but could use a rebuild or replacement, the RPM tach is not currently working. Newly installed rebuilt piston power steering system has minor hydraulic leak. Exterior: 3 stage urethane Paint Body additions: matte black front splitter and ram air scoop and rear wing Head lights, tail lights (working lids, sequential) tires: New Cobra Radial GT with less then 1,000 miles Original Cougar Eliminator wheels Interior: Dash has no cracks and full instrument panel with tick tock dash Instrument light and interior lights all work White and black leather seats in great condition and well cared for. Carpet is in immaculate condition with no stains and very little wear Roof headliner is in amazing condition, no stains and looks great Engine: (engine compartment) 302 V-8 High performance water pump Aluminum radiator Ceramic headers Custom exhaust (Loud and sounds great) Other: Newly installed rebuilt power steering pump (minor leak) New breaks rotors and brake pads as well as new brake lines. California Car Cover (custom fit for this make and model) Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction end, and make arrangements for payment at that time. Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
