I am the second owner of this 1969 Ford mercury Cougar. I aquired the car from a mechanic who customized the interior, paint job and wheels. I bought the car, with all of the original manuals and paperwork of the first owner of the car, in mint condition, which will come with the car when sold. Then after owning the car for two years, I bought a $7,000 crate motor and had it installed with new parts and a custom exhaust. The motor has never gotten its timing set correctly, or had its racing Holley carbeurator tuned, just because I have not had the time or money to look into a mechanic who could perform these tasks. Although the timing is off, I have recently taken the car to a few mechanics and they are telling me the cars engine is still in great shape, it just needs a little tuning. The car runs currently, and has no history of accidents or car damage whatsoever. The valve stem seals should be replaced because the motor burns a little more oil than it should, but its an easy fix that I don't have the time for. The passenger door handle mechanism allows it to be opened from the inside, but not the outside (easy fix) and the paint is in great shape except for a few small cracks around the hood scoop. All 4 wheels are custom Mickey Thompson racing tires with unique rims, and even with a timing problem the car can still spin these high performance racing tires. We installed a new stereo system that looks original but has an auxillary output so you can listen to your ipod/phone, and the interior itself is in great condition! One thing I can think of that should also be done to the car is fixing the battery mount, but other than that, this car is in great shape, it runs good, it has a few minor things that need to be taken care of, but with a little time and effort, this car will be a great vehicle to have.

I am invested in this car $23,000, and I am selling the car to help pay for college as I do not have the time or money to work with the car myself.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
