Convertible on 2040-cars

Year:1972 Mileage:91876

Littleton, Colorado, United States

This is an all original survivor car.  The first owner purchased the car new in Denver in 1972 and I bought it from this individual in 1978.  This person put most of the miles on it with mainly highway use.  It is the XR-7 model which has full instrument gauges and other upgrades over the base Cougar.  It has always been adult owned, maintained and driven.  It is a beautiful car that runs and drives excellent.  There is no rust and it has never been wrecked.  The factory vinyl dash cover is in perfect condition with no cracks.  It has always been garaged from day 1 of my ownership.  The car has simply been well taken care of and is an original Q code vehicle as indicated by the 5th digit of the VIN.
It has had one repaint and one new top.  The wheel opening and rocker mouldings are NOS factory originals.  The interior, engine compartment, trunk and undercarriage are all original.  The top boot is in good condition and the car includes the original factory vinyl boot jacket.  This boot jacket is shown in the photo of the trunk.  The power top works perfect.
The engine is the 351C, high output Cobra Jet Q code V-8.   It has a 4V 4300-D carburetor.  4V carburetors on Cougars in 1972 are fairly rare.  Most of those that did come with the 4V had the 4300 base carb.  This car has the very rare factory 4300-D, 715 CFM carb.  It is a go fast, if you want it to, vehicle and is considered one of the last in the muscle car era.  It has factory dual exhaust with rear staggered shocks.  The engine does not smoke or use oil.
The car has newer radial tires along with the following rebuilds:  C-6 auto transmission, carburetor, power steering pump and cooling system pump.  All new valve lifters, valve springs and push rods.
It has the factory AM radio with 8 track option.  The steering wheel has the rim blow for the horn which was also an option.  The car comes with the original owner's manual along with other dealer and factory paperwork. All are in excellent condition.  Maintenance records are also included.
Early 70's convertibles in good original condition are getting hard to find.  You can hop in this one, put the top down, then drive and enjoy!  I am selling this car as I simply have not been driving it that much the past few years and need to start downsize.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
