The City of Fernandina Beach is selling a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis by means of a NO RESERVE auction. This car was acquired by the City about 18 months ago so we do not have a full maintenance history. Car is in fair/good shape for its age and mileage. Exterior and interior need a good cleaning. Power windows, cruise, locks, A/C, etc all are working Tires have good tread and the car rides well. There are a few cigarette burns in the front seats, but the car doesn't smell like smoke. Transmission fluid is dirty. It should be flushed soon. A full engine tune-up was performed about 3 months ago. The City of Fernandina Beach encourages all prospective bidders to inspect items in person prior to bidding. Surplus items are located at 1017 South 5th St Ext in Fernandina Beach, FL.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman
Wed, 17 Nov 2010Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue
Mon, 29 Oct 2012A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.
Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7
Sun, 31 Jul 2011You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
