1951 Mercury 2 door Sport Coupe, with an original 255 Flathead and 3 Speed Transmission and the original 6 volt system. This Mercury has undergone a frame on restoration and is a beautiful example of the last year of this body style. The body was stripped and painted the original Sheffield green in DuPont Base/Clear Coat, All the chrome has been re-plated at some of the best re chroming companies on the east coast, the stainless was removed and polished, The glass in all windows has been replaced with the exception of the rear window, all the rubber seals and weather-stripping have been replaced, the braking and steering systems have all been rebuilt and an original interior has been installed, runs and drives as it should, has been kept in heated storage since 2008, The fender skirts have been removed in the photos but are there with the car, This car was a driver and as such there are a few minor paint chips, while this car is by no means perfect it is a very strong #3 possibly a #2 based on the description of classic car rating on Hagerty Insurances web site https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/Classifications-and-Conditions

This car was my late fathers and while it’s a great example of the 1951 Mercury it’s not my preference, this car is for sale locally in the Western Pennsylvania area and this auction can be ended at any time by me. Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Thu, 24 Feb 2011

Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.

NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
