1954 Mercury Monterey 2 door Hard top.  Original V8 and 3 speed Over Drive car.  California Car from 1954 to 2005 (41 years).   Original California Black Plates are still on the car.  Car has been in Oregon for the last 8 years, and that is where it is now.    (The roads are not salted in California or Oregon, so our cars don't rust out.)  This car has some  minor body damage. (Lower right and left rear quarter panels).  Please see pictures.  It has  surface rust, as can be seen in the exterior pictures.  The Floor pans, fenders, quarter panels, doors, trunk pan are all very solid. Again those areas have some surface rust, that is easily repairable.  Please see the pictures.  The carpeting was removed to show how good the floors and trunk are.  The frame is very nice.  Again, a solid California Car.  With great Patina.

DRIVE TRAIN- It has a Y Block V8 engine, that is NOT original to the car.  It still has the original  three speed and overdrive transmission and rear end.     The condition of the engine and transmission are unknown.  The engine does turn over freely.  The car does NOT run.  It will have to be trailered.   All the glass is good.  Has all the upholstery, door panels, head liner, etc.  The car is all there.   The tires and wheels are good and it rolls around fine.   The emergency brake works. We can  assist in loading the car.  The car could be shipped by a commercial Car Carrier, but they charge extra, when a vehicle does not run.  If you want a shipping quote, Google "Car shipping quotes" put in our Zip Code of 97330, and your Zip code, and you will get several quotes.

I am listing this for a friend, who has a Treasure Trove of Lincoln and Mercury parts.   So if you have any questions regarding the car,  please Call:  1- (541) 740-4910 and ask for Don.

So what we have is:  A very solid 1954 Mercury Monterey from California, that needs a restoration.  Or, make it a driver as a "BARN FIND", with its very attractive "Patina".  Very good car to start from, that does not need major body work or the replacement of all the floors or body panels.  The owner is 71 years old, and is trying to reduce his Project Car Fleet.  Clean and clear Oregon title.  If Don is not available, please call me at (541) 740-4140 and ask for Al.  Good Luck in bidding.
The Reserve on this Mercury is very Low.  It is going to sell.

On Apr-16-13 at 20:03:29 PDT, seller added the following information:

The owner (Don) has a 292 Y Block Ford engine, with custom finned valve covers, 4 barrel Carb, air cleaner, distributor, wires, etc. complete good running engine, with a 3 speed Ford Automatic; available for purchase; for an extra $1200.00 to the winning bidder. If the winning bidder does not want the engine/trans, he will sell the engine and transmission for $1200.00 after the auction. The tires have about 70% tread. They are a matching set of BFGoodrich T/A radial tires (All 5 tires).

On Apr-16-13 at 20:57:35 PDT, seller added the following information:

My math is bad.  The Mercury was in California from 1954 to 2005,  and that is 51 years;  not the 41 years I put in the original listing.   Any way you look at it, this Mercury is 59 years old and looks great for it age.   How many cars  are in Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, New York, Illinois, etc....   that are 59 years old????  Virtually none...  They all rusted out many years ago, and have become Campbell Soup cans.   I hope you Rust Belt guys,  take note and realize that this Mercury is a real treasure.  It may be too cheap at $3750.00.     You decide.....

NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.

NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.

Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7

Sun, 31 Jul 2011

You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
Still, if you're willing to smell like a mountain man and look like a bad Back to the Future knockoff, this ride is right up your alley. Click past the jump to see Translogic's take on this modified Merc.
