General notes :

- The vehicle has remained stationary and untagged for the majority of my ownership. (I was out of the area during most of 2011/2012. I was in the area during 2013 but unable to take on any physical activities or use a manual shifter due to a ski injury.)

Historical timeline:

2010.11.22 @ 23,633 miles
- purchased from original owner (in Chicago, IL)
- driven to MD

2010.11.29

2010.12.02 @ 24,334 miles
- Nissan dealership performs MD state inspection (copy/results available)
- determines LF lower ball joint will need replacement (due to age)
- determines all tires will need replacement (original Goodyear Eagles are on the vehicle)

~2010.12.15 @ 24,346 miles
- battery disconnected and vehicle placed under a locked car cover

In the interim the vehicle was started whenever I was in the area (or every few months) and allowed to run for a bit (usually > 30 minutes) and then re-covered.

2014.05.30 @ 24,346 miles
- current state

Items which have been taken care of :
- new injectors (under original owner ~2010.11)
- new battery (under original owner ~2010.11)
- oil/filter change (~2010.12)

Items which should be taken care of prior to driving :
- tires (due to age - original Goodyear Eagles are on the vehicle)
- windshield (Y shaped crack occurred ~2014.04 while stationary in the driveway and under the cover - most likely from kids playing around in the neighborhood)
- timing belt and related parts (due to age - for peace of mind)
- LF lower control arm bushing (due to age - as per Nissan dealership)
- brake/transmission fluid change (due to age - for peace of mind)

Items which can be taken care of (cosmetic/aesthetic) :
- various paint swirls/scratches/chips
- hatch/wing/spoiler replacement
- drivers side door ding
- intermittent speakers (not yet tested thoroughly - the few times I drove it I kept an ear open for potential odd noises and mainly enjoyed the engine)

2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid priced from $35,110*

Sat, 26 Oct 2013

Nissan has announced pricing for the 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid, which was revealed earlier this year at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Offering two- or all-wheel drive, the hybridized crossover sports a 3.5-liter V6 and a 15-kilowatt electric motor, for a total of 250 system horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers match up well with the 260 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque put out by the V6-powered Pathfinder. Naturally, fuel economy sees a hefty boost, to 25 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, bumps of five and two mpg, respectively.
The Pathfinder Hybrid is available in three grades. Prices start at $35,100 for an SV and jump to $38,050 for the mid-level SL. A top-flight Platinum, meanwhile, moves the price up to $42,750. Adding all-wheel drive to the package bumps the price up to $1,600 across the range, and keep in mind that these prices don't include Nissan's $860 destination charge. Take a look below for the full press release from Nissan, including detailed pricing charts for both the Hybrid and V6 Pathfinder.

Nissan commits to adding 'iconic' design after Cube killed off

Fri, 25 Jul 2014

The Nissan Cube is on its way out here in the US and Canada. In a way, that's too bad, simply because the Cube's styling was nothing if not distinctive - much like the company's own Juke. However, the flame for uniquely styled models is indeed still burning over at Nissan.
We might never see an exact replacement for the Cube in the brand's lineup, but product planning boss Andy Palmer says that its retirement leaves a spot open in the Nissan lineup for something else. "To be clear, we will morph this space in our portfolio into something iconic," said Palmer to Automotive News. Unfortunately, he wouldn't hint at what that could mean.
However, his lack of suggestions makes it fun to speculate about what oddity could replace the Cube, especially since two of Nissan's more recent quirky concepts might have problems hitting the road. The Bladeglider is mired in Nissan and Deltawing Technologies' ongoing patent lawsuit. Alternatively, the retro-inspired IDx might be too expensive to build profitably. Still, this is the company that created both the (nearly dead) Murano CrossCabriolet and the very successful Juke; it can probably come up with something else delightfully weird.

Datsun reveals new On-Do budget sedan in Russia [w/video]

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

When Nissan revived the Datsun brand name, it essentially hit the "undo" button on the rebranding it undertook decades ago. But this time, the Datsun name is being used solely as a budget brand for developing markets. The reborn marque launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's back again with the new On-Do sedan.
Launched in Moscow by CEO Carlos Ghosn, the On-Do was designed and engineered in Japan specifically for the Russian market - Nissan's fifth largest worldwide - where it will be built at the AvtoVaz plant in Togliatti. Decidedly budget-oriented, the Datsun On-Do is a four-door, five-seat econo-box measuring 172 inches long, 67 inches wide and 60 inches tall with an 18.7 cubic-foot trunk which Datsun describes as class-leading. Punctuating an otherwise bland shape is a large front grille and lighting front and rear that looks (and very well might be) bigger than the wheels.
Not that the Datsun On-Do needs a big contact patch to transfer power to the road: motivation is provided by a 1.6-liter engine with a grand total of - wait for it... wait a little longer - 87 horsepower. Which might strike you as a reasonable amount of muscle, considering the 400,000 rubles Datsun is getting for the On-Do (but consider that translates to about $11,300). That's a couple grand more than what Nissan gets for the Micra in that other giant northern country, or about the same amount it gets for the Versa in the US (which sells in Russia for 499k in rubles) - both of which are powered by what is in all likelihood the same 1.6-liter four but producing 109 hp. Of course Russia has different tax rates than the United States or Canada, but with such little power, the Datsun would fall into Russia's lowest tax bracket.
