1967 Cutlass Convertible. This garage-kept car is is blue with white interior. The car has the original drivetrain, an Olds 330 cu inch Jetfire engine and Jetaway automatic transmission. The car indicates 13,000 miles. I believe this to be 113,000 based on the car's history and my experience with it. I am the third owner. The previous owner had it for about 5 years (in eastern Alabama) and the first owner had it for the 40+ years before that in Georgia. I have the original title, and Protect-O plate as well as some other documentation for the car including the original owner's manual. I moved to Rhode Island in July 2014 and this car has never seen snow or salt. One look at the undercarriage will prove it.

The car is in great mechanical shape. It starts right up and drives great. I addressed a few mechanical issues when I bought it to include:
- New front brake calipers and pads
- New rear brake shoes
- New front upper and lower control arm bushings
- New rear lower control arm bushings
- New front shocks
- New rear adjustable air shocks
- New rear axle bearings

The convertible top works great and is in like-new condition. The car is almost 50 years old and I don't drive it when it rains. I keep the top up when I'm not using it and the top stays down when I drive it.

The car gets about 16mpg in the city and around 20mpg on the highway.

I have a soft parade boot (covers the convertible top well when the top is down) for it also. I've never used it, but it is included in the sale.

The car is basically stock with a few modifications:

Brakes: The front brakes have been modified from drum to disk. They are the standard early 70's GM disk brake setup. The car stops great.

Suspension: the car has been lowered 2 inches using drop spindles and springs. The important thing to know here is that nothing has been cut or welded. I have the original spindles and springs in case you ever wanted to bring it back to the original stance. (However I think it looks great the way it is)

Wheels and Tires: It has Coys wheels (18 inch in front, and 20 inch in back). The tires are Toyos. 225/45ZR18 in front and 225/55ZR20 in back. They are in great shape, and I have a spare front tire as well. I do not have the original wheels or tires.

Carburetor: The stock 2 bbl carburetor was replaced with a Holley 4 bbl that works great.

Ignition: The old points-style ignition has been replaced with an electronic ignition for better efficiency and less hassle with the points.

Front Seats: I replaced the front seats with Procar "Scat" Rally seats. They look great and have nice bolsters to keep you in place. I have the original front seats (which are be included in the sale). The rest of the interior appears to be original. I used SEM Color Coat to dye it to a bright white (called "Sail Cloth White" by SEM). Now it looks great and matches the front seats. By the way, the original front seats would sell for around $700 - $900 if I sold them separately.

Stereo: I do not have an in-dash stereo. I have the car setup with a Kicker PXibt 50.2 Bluetooth amplifier and speakers. It allows you to wirelessly stream your iPod or Pandora. The Bluetooth amp is hidden behind the dash. I have two 6-inch Kicker KS speakers (top of the line), which are plenty loud even at highway speeds with the top down. The speakers are mounted in a custom-made box that sits on the transmission tunnel so that I didn't have to cut any holes in the car for speaker mounting. The speaker box just sits there and is not bolted down. (The speaker box is not pictured)

There are only a few issues with this car. Here are the main ones:
- The transmission shifts nicely both up and down, but there is a slight "knock" when it goes from 2nd to 1st. It's nothing major and your passengers probably won't even notice it, but in the vein of full disclosure you should know about it.
- The car was repainted in 1986. The paint looks good for it's age, but there are a few spots of bubbling. One by the passenger side vent window and some on the passenger side rocker panel. Both are pictured. Also, I scratched the paint around the trunk emblem. . .also pictured.
- The fuel gauge currently does not work. I recently spent $600 getting the instrument panel restored and now the gauge reads empty all the time. I'm sure it's a simple electrical fault, but I have not diagnosed it yet.

To be clear this car is a driver. . .not a show car. However, it's a very nice driver that people really love. The car is cool on it's own, but the "resto-mod" look with the big wheels and tires really sets it apart from other cars of the era.

I have thoroughly enjoyed owning, tinkering with, and driving this car. But as car guys know, it's time to move on. Maybe this will be your next toy.

Please call or text if you have questions.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
