I am selling a 1972 Cutlass convertible project car in running and driving condition. the car starts right up and runs strong, it is registered and insured so if you are local you can come test drive, the car is pretty solid for a 72 but it does need to be restored, previous owner had it painted years ago and you can tell that bondo was used and its is starting to rust through on the previous repairs, pictures are provided on all spots, new floors were welded in a few years back and are solid, trunk pan is shot and needs to have a new one welded in, a new gas tank was put in as well as a new alternator and carburetor, i also have and am including the original carb, the frame is solid with no more than a little surface rust, the convertible top fabric is in good shape with no holes, it is a power top but it is currently in need of a new cylinder so you have to put it up and down manually, i replaced the lines with factory speck and one of the cylinders and the other one just went so i just disconnected them both, the top does seem like it needs an adjustment as you have to muscle it to get it to latch closed, there is rust on the top of the windshield where the top closes(picture included), the interior is in decent shape with somewhat of a new rug installed, the door panels are decent but the carpet on the bottom needs to be died, i don't have the rear armrest covers but do have the piston covers that need to be recovered because the ones i have are blue (pictures included) someone put the console shifter in and didn't hook it up to the steering column so when you put it into park you have to turn the column slightly to get the key out, the rear seat is in great shape and i have the matching front complete skin and plastic set for buckets that are in great shape but unfortunately the front seats that are in there are not the correct cutlass ones so you will have to buy a pair of cutlass seats and then use what i have to recover them, a used dash was put in and no one ever hooked up any of the wires to the new dash, you can see in a picture that it is just a big ball off wires waiting to be hooked up, so i have no idea if the heat or the ac works, you can see from the picture from behind that the car sits with a little lean towards one side in the rear, i have brand new Moog rear coil springs for the car because one of them is bad causing the lean, the front grille assembly is in need of a new one as it is broken and one of the headlights is broken but i do have the new bulb to go with it, the power steering pump also has a small leak, the window glass is all good but the driver side front and rear seem like they need an adjustment as they go up but don't line up perfectly with the top, the convertible top has plastic not glass rear window, i have two brand new front fiberglass fenders and a brand new rear right full metal quarter panel that is included in the auction as well as the new chrome trim to go around the convertible top, i also have the convertible top boot that is in good condition as well as a few extra parts and what i think is a used cherry bomb muffler that are included as well, there is a slight pull to the left when applying the brakes hard that just started happening so i am not sure what that is, i have tried to describe this the best i can and have listed all the issues i can think of so you know exactly what you are getting, again you can drive this car right now as it is and restore it as you go...... i was going to do it as a father son project but a just lost my job and this has now taken a back seat so i don't want to let it sit, i am starting the opening bid at $4,000 with no reserve so bid to win and good luck!! i can drive the car to a local transport if needed.... i have a clean transferable registration in hand.... ny does not issue titles for vehicles from 1972

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
