1969 Plymouth Barracuda 340 Formula S


Numbers matching 340 4-speed Barracuda - a very rare fish. 
This car was rescued from 30+ years of indoor storage after a blown motor put it in a dusty corner of Citrus Heights CA. Tabs and registration expired in 1984 (have original california pink slip, signed by previous owner and not dated - this is an original PINK slip (the small ones). Car has CA blue plates with 1984 tabs that match reg cards found in car.

Body:
Started with a very rust free California car. A few small dime size spots of rust in the car were professionally repaired after complete media (glass bead) blasting. Body was primed and sprayed inside with Lizard Skin ceramic sound deadener after being treated to Quarter panel re-skinning on both sides in the rear (there was some bad bodywork lurking under the original skins from some minor accidents). Front fenders needed some sectioning work to replace more cut up bodywork, so donor fenders were cut for patches. After bodywork the car was re-sprayed with PPG products in the original A4 silver color that was underneath 1 previous paint over of corvette yellow. Black reproduction stripes applied after color sanding and polishing. Bumpers and some trim have been replaced with reproduction parts from Classic Industries and Year One. Numbers engraved in trunk gutter and core support match car.

Engine:
Original numbers matching block was still in the car - but had thrown a rod into the piston skirt. All 8 cylinders were re-sleeved by Joes engine shop in Concord CA, and the original block, X heads, intake and all were machined to stock specs, line honed, balanced and assembled with top-notch components. Engine is painted correct to year mopar blue. Original alternator (this is a dual field unit probably upgraded in the 70's) was re-conditioned as well as the original starter. A mopar performance electronic distributor, and electronic voltage regulator were also added to help with modern drivability. Original carter AVS included with sale, but carb was upgraded to an edelbrock unit. Engine was dyno tested and broken in - showing 295 HP, and near 350 foot lb. of torque. Cooling system was upgraded with high flow water pump and griffin radiator and March performance pulleys  (original radiator and pulleys included in sale).

Drivetrain
Original 4-speed trans, 8.75" sure grip rear end.

Brakes: Manual brakes, 4-piston disc in front (stock) and drum in rear. 

Interior:
Dash pad and gauge bezel / glovebox trim were replaced with reproductions, seat covers and carpet replaced. Door panels, steering wheel, shifter, door glass, seat belts, headliner, rear glass and seat frames are all original to the car.

Other Stuff:
All suspension and braking components including ball joints, tie rod ends, bearings, seals, brake calipers, etc. replaced with Moog / Timken / Prothane and Raybestos components. Exhaust is a reproduction system from Accurate Exhaust.Brake lines replaced with stainless  Fuel tank was cleaned and coated with a KBS coatings kit. Tires are new Coker firestone redlines on 70's vintage rally wheels with original centers and beauty rings and full size spare with redline tire mounted. Original jack in trunk along with reproduction trunk mat.
Manual brakes and Manual steering work very well - car stops and steers without effort.

What is not perfect - but could be replaced for a totally stock show winner:
- Fender tag is missing from car - but build sheet in car that matches vin shows most important options. Fender tag can be made from order and sequence number.
- Radiator,shroud, pulleys and carb as mentioned above (originals included in sale)
- Radio missing
- Wheels are painted black (my choice - but not correct)
- Wheel centers and beauty rings show some wear
- Some trim has small dings and scratches - but could be fixed / polished.
- Left side grille plastic is mis-shapen a bit, but hard to notice.
- Left side grille chrome bezel has very minor pitting
- Grille eggcrate painted black, but easy to bring back to silver.
- Small flaws in the paint with some alligatoring on the trunk and a little on the hood - but paint shines well, and flaws are very hard to notice. Paint is better than driver quality.
- Headrests not installed - but included with the car (need re-covering), have new chrome strip.
- New front marker reflector came unglued and broke off during first trip.

Car runs and drives very strong. I have driven the car several hundred miles since restoration to / from a few shows without issue. Sounds great, Looks great, and will lay 2 nice patches on command from a stop without the need to dump the clutch, and will roll 'em at speed! Car starts easy, and idles smooth.

This is a very rare car - and the reserve and buy it now prices reflect that. Engine work and hard parts purchased for this restoration total over $25k. 
Don't confuse a 340 4-speed car with sold cars that were 318 automatics.

This factory big block automatic car recently sold for $55k - Not the exact car, but this is an auto car with a big block - not a 4-speed.

Buyer is responsible for pick up / delivery - but I will consider delivery for a fixed fee based on buyer location by covered trailer / pickup tow.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. 'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
