Offered is a completely restored 67 Plymouth Barracuda fastback.  This was the second series of the Barracuda body style (Mopar A body) and was new in 1967.  It was larger than the previous model - to accommodate larger engines and better suspensions - along with more interior space and updated dash/gauges.  This particular car is a fully loaded model equal to the Formula S top of the line model but without the S badges. It is a numbers matching car.  It has factory a/c (which still works just fine), has disc brakes (front), has the upgraded AM radio.  Is an automatic.  The engine is a fully rebuilt 273 V8 with 4 bbl carb (edelbrock).  It was rebuilt with hydraulic lifters, new cam, new valves, heads made new again, has upgraded EGGE high dome pistons - that match the original high performance Mopar type.  Also upgraded to a fully electronic ignition system by Mopar.  New fuel pump, new oil pump, new water pump, new aluminum Champion custom radiator.  Front end has new bushings, new roll bar, new shocks, pitman arm, ball joints, etc.  Rear has been upgraded from a 7 1/4 differential to a heavy duty 8 3/4 (741 year correct type), with a 3.23 ring/pinion.  Bolt pattern is A body standard 5 X 4", or called small bolt.  Wheels are Cragars S/S (08/61) and are 14 X 6 size.  Tires are new BFG double red lines, size 205R70 X 14. Two extra, unmounted red line tires of same size included in sale.   New brakes.  Interior is fully replica interior from Legendary.  It is wine red seats and door panels with black carpet and black headliner and rear storage.  Instrument panel is a new  - Mopar certified, with all working gauges. Upper dash just like new.   The automatic is a column shift style.  Even the brake and accelerator pads are upgraded to the chrome edged style.  All the chrome is in great condition - bumpers new, bumper guards new, etc.  New windshield with NEW front and rear window factory correct, for 1967, gaskets.  These are a one year only type gasket and took me three years to finally get both.  New gas tank and sending unit, with newly restored gas gauge.  This is a great driving and riding car.  Few of these are around anymore.  It is the original factory correct color it came in -  PP1 Red.  It has both the 67 center racing stripe and the 69 side stripes ( always liked both).  Trunk has new gasket and has also been upgraded on the inside, has fold down panel for more storage access.  Dual exhaust (true dual) with Flowmaster 40 mufflers.  Has factory replica 24 series, green cap battery, correct for the engine type and model year.  Engine also has correct high performance valve covers, air cleaner, wires, driver side exhaust wire shield, etc.  A/C has new vacuum control unit installed and control panel refurbished.  Lots of money and time into this car. Paint job alone is 8 coats, high gloss (just like original) deep shine.  Am third owner, car originally bought in Houston, grew up in Arlington.  Based on the paperwork I have believe the mileage shown to be actual miles. Have original build sheet and other paperwork - including the 'cert' card.  Have no pressure to sell so not in a hurry,  asking price way below spent money.  Trade, i.e. car/truck with $ might be considered, Mopar preferred.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
