1965 Pontiac Catalina Ventura 6.4l on 2040-cars

Up for bid it my family's 65 Catalina, bought new by my grandfather. He gave it to me about 10 years ago, and after a short time driving it, it sat covered in a carport. Now it's time to let the old gal go.
The good: This is an original California car, bought new in Fremont, CA. Comes with the original black and orange plates. The motor has never been opened up except for my installing a new timing chain 10 years ago. A month ago I began working on the car; I pulled the plugs and found the engine turned with no issues. I drained the fuel tank and ran a separate line from the fuel pump to a gas can. The car fired right up and idles smooth. The undercarriage is rust free. Here's the details: Original paint Excellent chrome, no dents on bumpers Very good interior, including Original loop carpet Very good interior chrome Original AM radio Excellent headliner/no tears No tears in the seats, but see photo for seam separation on the driver's side. All interior/exterior lights work, including spool light in trunk 3/4 original T3 headlights Original wheel covers Original trunk liner in fair condition Non-original AC (disconnected) Copy of original shop manual included Comes with California vehicle registrations beginning in 1966 until registered Non-Op Original Owners Protection Plan booklet and Owner's Guide The not-so-good The rear window developed a leak into the trunk years ago. My grandfather tried to fix it with silicon, but water still got in. Ultimately, body work will have to be done around the rear window to make the car water tight. There is also rust pitting on some of the paint surfaces. There are two significant scratches on the driver side rear fender, one that has a small crease (see photo). There is also some sort of dent/scratch on the passenger door, just about in the middle above the chrome trim. I'm sure my grandfather washed the car with dish soap back in the day, and the paint is getting a bit thin on some corners, most noticeably the spine on the trunk. There are small parking lot dings, most were touched up by hand by my grandfather. Not the best fix. Most of the rubber trim needs to be replaced. I would also recommend replacing coolant and brake rubber, given that the car has sat for 10 years. The car will need a battery and new tires. All in all, this is a pretty nice 10 footer. Much closer than that and you can see the body and paint issues. I am not a professional seller. I've got great feedback and do my best to keep things fair. 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern
Mon, 07 Nov 2011General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.
How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners
Fri, 28 Oct 2011This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
