1968 Pontiac Firebird. This is a  rare car. I have the P.H.S. documentation for the car included. It is a Factory 400 H.O. but currently has a running 1970 350 Chevrolet Impala engine with Holley 4 barrel, aluminum intake and HEI  installed. The car was ordered with the following- 400 H.O. 335hp,Solar red,Black interior,Rally gauge cluster,Custom sport steering wheel, console, dual exhaust, manual front disc brakes,Soft ray glass, Ride & Handling package,F70x14 white Wide Oval,"Special order" 3.90 Saftey-T-Track rear, and "Special order" Close ratio Muncie 4 Speed transmission. This car was ordered to go fast with minimal options. A Pontiac with MANUAL STEERING, MANUAL DISC BRAKES AND NO AIR CONDITIONING? Also, no vinyl top, so it is a  very simple, striking and serious car. It has been off the road and stored for nearly 30 years. It is mostly unmolested other then engine and some bolt-on items like traction bars, mudgaurds, hood pins and longer shackles. I have the trim, nameplates and emblems for the car. There is a nearly new fuel tank for it. The floors, trunk and inner structure is solid. Needs complete restoration, but very good, solid start. Needs quarter panels and top of dash is rusty. Had spoiler so there are holes in decklid. Rust in lower dogleg area on fenders. Small hole in drivers door. Glass all looks good, there is a chip on passenger side rear edge. Interior is complete with exception of radio. The tires are dry rotted. Had amateur orange paint job from many years ago. Again, it does run and drive but brakes are soft. Ask questions, or come take a look. I can help load on trailer. I will not deliver. No reserve. Located 15 miles south of St. Paul Minnesota. No warranties or guarantees. $500 payment due at end of auction. No personal checks. I accept Paypal, money orders or cash upon pick-up. Thanks.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
