Rough Project Car, Needs Complete Restoration, 1970 Pontiac Firebird 400, PHS indicates it was originally equipped with the Ram Air III, M21 4spd & 3.73 12 bolt posi. No Engine, No Transmission, the rear axle in the car is Not the original 12 bolt. Someone had replaced floor pans but did a poor job of it, the new set of floor pans in pictures are included with sale of car, side frame rails are solid, the floors under the front seats are solid, the area under the rear seat lower cushions has also been poorly repaired and needs to be redone, the seats are obviously out of a 1970 Camaro due to the upolstery pattern, rear quarter panels do have some body filler in them, rear frame rails are solid with light pitts and surface rust, the trunk floor is solid with some pitting on top, I was not going to replace the trunk floor, the rear taillight panel is also very solid, the drivers front fender & drivers door have both been replaced sometime in the past, the passenger side fender and door are originals, the endura nose/bumper is the original, the Ram Air hood is the original with the screens still in place, the 14x7 Rally II wheels are a matched JS code set, although the PHS indicated the car did not come with Rallys originally, mileage on the odometer is 78,668.8 which I believe to be the correct original mileage, original color was Granada Gold with Black Standard Interior, one picture shows the passenger frame rail which still has the Granada Gold on it.

Car is sold as is with no warranty of any kind, I have a transferable registration in my name, titles were not used in NY until about 1973 so car is transferable by the registration. Car is located in Poughkeepsie, New York, about an hour north of New York City. Thanks.

On May-29-13 at 01:30:10 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have some additional parts that I bought for this project, these are NOT included in the auction but will be offered for sale to the winning bidder, these parts include another 1970 Formula Ram Air III Hood with screens & boots/rings, am/fm radio, 1970 Formula Ram Air III air cleaner and 1970 COZ 3.73 12bolt rear axle. None of these parts were original to this particular car. Again these parts are not included in the auction but will be offered to the winning bidder before I sell them outright to anyone, thanks.

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.
