1979 Trans Am with 6.6 403 Olds motor, automatic, 3.73 posi rear end. Car has a completely new drive train, newly recovered seats, stripped to metal and epoxy primed, now in 2K primer . This is a project, does need finish work, some metal work underneath but should be fairly easy to finish, most all the big ticket items are already here and the Drive train only has about 300 miles: Have receipts for over $2800 in machine work and parts in motor alone, not counting all bolt on items. Over 11K invested in this project, no time to finish.
1)Completely rebuilt 403 olds, bigger cam, alum intake, hooker headers, the list goes on..... 2)New aluminum radiator 3)Rebuilt 350TH trans with 2800 stall 4)Rebuilt rearend with new Eaton posi unit and 3.73 gears, and new leaf springs 5)Subframe blasted, painted, fitted with all new suspension including springs 6)New gas tank, shocks, all brakes are new 7)Completely Reconditioned snowflake wheels wrapped in new BFGs 8)Seats are all just recovered in correct camel vinyl 9)New parking lights, some some rubber items Cars runs good, make someone a nice project, #'s matching, originally gold color. |

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
Fri, 26 Aug 2011You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
