 1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM

Very well cared for Solar Gold T-Top Trans Am.  This car is somewhat unique in that it was reportedly delivered new to Canada and is a true A/C delete car (note the different dash and vents).  I had it imported back into the US in 2004.  It now has a clear Arizona title.  It was restored by a restoration shop in Phoenix that included a wet sand and new decals, minor suspension tuning, and a new interior.  In 2005 the engine was rebuilt by a shop in Scottsdale.  It has been a very dependable car for sunny day drives and has not been in the rain or winters for over 10 years.  We moved to Wisconsin in 2010 and the car has been stored with very little summer driving so I am downsizing.

The car has an interesting list of options which I assume comes from the Canada order.  It has power windows, T-Tops, deluxe interior, rear window defrost, and remote trunk release.  The stereo is upgraded with a CD and Amp.  Other than the stereo, the car is stock and original.  The interior is very nice (8/10) with no major flaws.  The exterior is also very nice (7/10) with some minor chips and nicks but no major issues.  It is not a show car, but presents very well when we have gone to drive-in shows.  The mileage is unknown as the car has had changes and I cannot verify the true mileage.  As stated, I drive the car about 200 miles per year and it always starts up right away and drives great.  I bought the car to drive and enjoy on nice days.  It is not perfect, but it is as close as I wanted so that I can drive it and not be worried.  I am happy to answer any questions within reason but I am not a mechanic and do not have any skills in that area.

The car is located near Appleton, Wisconsin and my preference is that a buyer inspect the car.  There is a well respected car shop in Sherwood (Zero to 60) that has done minor work on the car and can give a buyer (at their expense) a full report if needed.  Shipping is at the buyer's expense and all I will commit to is meeting the driver for pick-up.  I am setting the starting price and reserve low with the hope that the market will determine the sale price.  I am not interested in trades as I have a full storage of cars already.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.

Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
