Up for sale is a very rare, 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, Anniversary Indy Pace Car.

Car has been completely restored (suspension, brakes, exhaust, engine, transmission, interior, weather-stripping, etc.). Everything has been replaced or rebuilt to factory specifications or better. Certain things were upgraded just because it made sense to do it during restoration due to technology being better today than it was in 89. THIS IS NOT built to be a race car or drag car. This build was for a performance daily driver.

Suspension & Brakes - All suspension and steering components were replaced with new parts (struts, link, tie rods, arms, bushings, ball joints, etc. ) Modifications to this area include slotted and cross drilled rotors, Red powder coated factory calipers, adjustable strut mounts for better alignment. The engine cradle was dropped out of the bottom of the car when engine and trans were rebuilt, and the cradle was powder coated. Most parts were blasted and powder coated during this process. On a scale from 1-10 (10 being perfect), I rate this section as a 9.5 - just because nothing is perfect.

Engine & Transmission - Engine was rebuilt with forged parts, new bearings & file to fit rings (built and balanced by professional), everything checked and replaced as needed. New sensors, relays, switches, etc. Valve covers and intake were powder coated to factory colors and look awesome. Modifications to this area include billet wheel turbo, ceramic coated exhaust manifolds and turbo pipes, billet roller cam and lifters with matching valve springs, adjustable boost control (factory stuff was horrible), billet servo in tranny, and 255 lph fuel pump in tank. I rate this area a 9.5 as well just because there is always improvement areas here.

Body - New seals, polished paint, new emblems and weather-stripping, new hatch release, lights actually work (up and down positions), new tank and sending unit. Modifications to this area include a replacement fiberglass spoiler (factory ones were horrible). I rate this as a 9 just because there are some little imperfections here and there as you can expect from a driver.

Interior - Factory leather trim installed, new headliner, new top seals, hatch seals, new carpet, newly leather wrapped steering wheel, shift knob and e-brake handle. Modifications to this area include a leather wrapped dash pad (I hate those plastic ones), dynomat sound deadener installed throughout the car (doors, floors, etc.), carbon fiber dipped panels here and there (the factory patterns were worn and could not find replacements and this looks really nice). I rate this area a 8.5 only because the factory stereo with controls in steering wheel is not functioning (haven't even looked at why), seat belts are factory and a little faded. I do have the Door and Window Decals new in the box, just never installed them.

Overall, car is a solid 9.25 on a 1-10 scale and is in VERY good condition. As stated, this is a rare car - 1 of only 1555 produced. It is an Anniversary TA and Indy Pace Car with same drivetrain as the popular Grand National (different heads). I have many parts for this car collected during restoration that will go with the car as well. Fully documented restoration and clear texas title. Car has less than 200 miles on it since restoration.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.
