This Pontiac G8 GXP is in great condition inside and out.  It features the powerful 6.2l V8 engine with 415 horses.  The Pontiac brand only installed this engine in the G8 GXP, and only in 2009.  This is the most powerful production Pontiac ever built.  Only around 1800 GXP's were built, and of those only around 300 with the manual transmission.  This car has never been smoked in, and also includes weathertech mats for front, rear and trunk.  (Factory GXP mats included too) I purchased this vehicle last year used from Baltimore Maryland.  All four tires are new and have less than 1000 miles on them.  I just had the rear differential fluid changed and clutch fluid flushed by the dealer less than 1000 miles ago.  The wheels are factory, however they have been powdercoated matte black by AWRS wheel.  They are excellent, with no scratches or nicks in them.  I am also including the factory service manuals printed by Helms. There are four large books.  I am selling because I am a federal employee about to be furloughed due to the Sequestration, and this is an extra vehicle that we don't need given the reduction in pay.  KBB private party is $30,125.  I am starting the auction at $26,700 with no reserve.  I will also list this car elsewhere and if it sells before auction close I reserve the right to close this auction early.  Test drives welcome, call or text "tree 1 sevun tree tree 2 niner sevun 1 ate" (to keep the bots away)  More pictures on request.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO

Mon, 24 Jun 2013

Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.

Looking back at Oprah's free-car giveaway 10 years later

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car.
Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6."
