The car was finished in Grenadier Red (V-2), with a BlackVinyl Top. The interior is finished in Black Vinyl (214). The car was built with a Muncie 4 Speed Transmission that was assembled February 4 1964. The engine block was cast on July 10, 1964. It is a 1964 389 Engine that is not the original unit to the car. The intake manifold is from a 1963 Tri Power Application. The heads are correct to the vehicle. The Hurst Wheels that on the car are original examples. Overall Condition This is a restored 1964 Pontiac LeMans GTO. This is an older restoration that is now in need of light freshening. The restoration when it was performed was very complete, and was done to a high standard. The restoration was performed on a very good example that has been finished in correct colors. The trim tag on the car is original and correct to the vehicle. The body on the car is very good condition. The floors are excellent. The body panels are excellent. The paint is very good. The paint will need some very good detail work to bring it up a level. All of the bright work is correct and original. The downfall to the car is that the restoration is older and it appears to have been poorly stored. It’s not bad, however if you look at the hardware, shocks, clamps, bolts, etc., evidence of corrosion exists. The car can be easily freshened, and this example is certainly worthy of the efforts. The engine compartment is very correct in appearance. The engine block has been replaced at some point. The engine in the vehicle is a 389 from 1964 that was cast in July, 5 months after this cars assembly. The intake manifold is a 1963 part number. The engine compartment needs some detail work, mainly exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads to be refinished. The interior on the car is very correct and is in very good condition. The components all appear to be original and complete. The car was ran and moved in close quarters during the inspection. Everything appeared to work as designed. The car was inspected on a lift and all mechanical items were inspected. Everything appeared to be in good operating condition. This is an example that was at least a very strong #2 condition car when completed and now has just aged. This car can be taken back to let level with well focused efforts targeted to details that have fallen in condition due to time and exposure. The car has a great set of original Hurst wheels that have not been restored. They are very good originals and add value to this car. We will be listing many more vehicles in the coming days. General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
Fri, 26 Aug 2011You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.
1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?
Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.
