I am the original owner of this car . I have the protecto-plate in my name which verifies the ws tripower engine as original to the car . the trans is original ( changed to close ratio with 1" countershaft ) and the rear end rebuilt to 3.55 posi . The engine was built by Scott Tiemann . it has the correct code 77 heads and arma steel crank . the purple id band is still on the distributor . still runs points. Factory cooling system with rad. filler on the left . the car matches it's phs docs. with the exception of the power steering which I added years ago . the paint is w code. bluemist slate . interior is black . All locks work .factory keys with the punch-outs intact . .the interior is legendary. New carpet, padding, headliner ect . firewall pad, cushions .all wire harnesses , deluxe belts . the ralley 1's are factory . . Exhaust system was made from a factory set that scott loaned to" Inline Tube" in sterling heights mi. correct right down to the resonators that all tri-power engines had. Ralley dash ,all gauges rebuilt . am with reverb .all glass tinted . correct hand painted single 1/8 " stripe. the chrome plating is as good as I've ever seen . The plated white metal tail bezils, tail panel , and console are excellent . this car is spotless, inside, out side, and underneath . The work has all been done in the last 3 years mostly over the last two summers . I trailered the car to town for alignment in Nov. last and it was driven about two miles then . early this spring I drove it down the road one foggy night to adjust the headlights . so it's been driven less than ten miles on the road and the rest on my property . a total of 23 miles as of yesterday . I run it nearly everyday . It is not cold blooded , it never was, It fires right now, summer or winter, always did . It idles about 600, smooth as glass , thats the way pontiacs ran, not with a lope or shakey . always ran 180 degrees . the tri-powers did not have the temp problem that the four brls. had due to the larger rad. Everything works . I listed this car once in march and once two weeks ago . it went to 38,000.00 the first time and 36,000.00 two weeks ago .I've spent over fourty grand on this car in the last three years. Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
