1970 PHS Documented Judge

This is a real 1970 Judge, 4 speed, Ram Air III, with PHS Documentation. Judges are one of the rare GTO's with only 3,629 hardtop's produced in 1970. This one was built with only 8 options, All good ones 4 speed manual transmission, Hood Tach, PB radio, Stereo Tape, Ride & Handling package, G70 14's, & a black Cordova top. The car has always lived in dry climate south central KS.

When I found the car it had been setting in a garage for 17 years. The same family had owned it from 1977 to 2003.The original trunk and floor pans were rust-free and very little body damage was found on the rest of the car.

In 2004, I had a master painter meticulously paint the exterior Pepper Green, a correct 1970 color close to the original color of Verdoro green just a little darker. He putted fenders & doors to pep them off the car. This is one of the most solid & rust free cars you will find. The vinyl roof looks really good and helps break up the paint scheme just right.

It was missing the original block. Most of the 4 speeds ended up like that. I put a 455 in it, a professionally built motor by a shop that has built hundreds of Pontiac Motors. The car was missing all the under hood Ram Air parts. Hey back in the day we pulled all that stuff off cause it was weight and slowing the car down. I restored it the same way cause I drive my cars some to enjoy them. I have since brought all the Ram Air parts and they are still new in the box and go with the car.

The car has been stored in a dry, insulated garage since restored, and driven occasionally on cruises or to shows. It runs and drives like the day it came off the showroom floor – but it’s a little faster with the 455 motor, Fly in and drive it anywhere.

The radio & factory tape deck was missing, with an after-market tape deck in the dash. I kind of like the 1970’s look of it so left it in. I haven't even hooked it up yet cause I don't drive the Judge to listen to the radio if you know what I mean. I put 15 inch Rally II's on it, you get a better ride with them. I have the correct coded 14 inch Rally II's that go with the car. I went ahead and put power disc brakes on the car too. But still have the drums and they go with the car too. Also, the car comes with an original 1970 dash bezel, that has not been “cut” where the radio goes.

I could write a book on the old girl so will stop and if you have any questions call me Les 316 788-6969 Just downsizing a little is the only reason she is on the block. Could help with delivery, just pick a good week weather wise...

GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.

Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
