1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J. I got this car as part of a package (I'm an Oldsmobile guy). Here is what I know: The car was in California before going to New Mexico in 1978 (according to the title). Been there till now. Has been off the road for many years (mid 80's). It's all original down to the paint. Still has all four original T3 headlights. Odometer reads 41K. Assume it went over once, since it looks too rough to be original.. I was told this was a one owner car, but the current owner had the car for (at least) the last 36 years. Original 400/4V, Turbo 400 transmission, 10 bolt posi (ratio unknown), dual exhaust, buckets/console, factory a/c, tinted glass, am radio, power steering, disc brakes. The car needs a total restoration, but is complete (nothing missing except a battery). I did get the car running, but it has a knock. You will need to trailer this car where ever you are taking it. It had a vinyl top which is long gone. It caused a small amount of rust underneath (common issue). This further caused a small rust spot behind the right rear wheel well (also common). Unfortunately it also went into the trunk, and rusted part of the trunk pan (see pics). Other than that, the car is a completely dry southwest desert car. Interior has typical sun damage. Dash survived well (only has a few cracks). Door panels also have a few cracks. Seats/headliner and carpet are completely shot. Windshield is cracked. Passenger marker light is cracked. Has minor bumps, but no major dents. Never painted, so you can see everything in the pics. The drivetrain is rebuild-able, or could be perfect for that GTO, or Trans AM restoration. The parts alone are worth the reserve, or this car could be nicely restored. $500 PayPal deposit is required within 24 hours. Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.
Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative
Tue, 29 Oct 2013How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?
