Here is a very nice example of a somewhat rare car. With only an estimated 4,648 of these made in 1974 just how many are still around today. This particular car is a two owner car from Virginia. It was originally bought new by a middle aged lady and then passed down to her daughter. I bought this car from the daughter. It has always been adult owned. The mileage as of now is 100,987 miles. This number may increase slightly as I drive the car.  I am pushing 50 and the previous owners were of similar age. It shows VERY well and always gets lots of attention everywhere it is seen. Coming from Virginia, the body was in excellent condition for a car almost 40 years old. I have owned the car approximately 8 years and have the itch for something else.

I have always kept the vehicle inside in a heated garage. As a matter of fact it has not seen the rain while I have owned it.

I had the car painted in the original Cameo White paint approximately 3 years ago over a rust free body! The car was painted disassembled to eliminate any paint lines and provide a factory appearance. At the same time all new weather seals and rubber bumpers were installed. A new decal kit was added at the same time.

The floor boards and trunk are as solid as when new. No holes or weak spots. Never any patch panels. Still original metal. Vehicle was undercoated when new.

The original 455 matching numbers engine was gone over and had all new bearings and seals installed. A new oil pump and water pump was also added. The cam was upgraded also. ( I believe a Ram Air III grind).

The heads on the car are the 197 round port heads. If you know Pontiacs, you know these are highly sought after. It also has factory round port exhaust manifolds with mandrel bent down pipes. The intake is a Pontiac Performer. The carburetor is the matching number quadrajet rebuilt to Super Duty specs.

So, to sum it all up, everything is numbers matching except the upgraded heads, exhaust manifolds and intake. I have been told the heads and exhaust manifolds could be sold for upwards of $3500.00 alone. Its like getting the performance of the super duty at a fraction of the cost!

The turbo 400 transmission and the 3:08 rear are original to the car and perform flawlessly. Also has new dual exhaust. Last year for dual exhaust without the need for a catalytic converter.

Original AM/FM radio with 8 track player in the console. Also has power windows.

I would drive this vehicle anywhere!

I have only put about 4,000 miles on it in the 8 years I have owned it.

I will list below all the new parts that were installed since I have had the vehicle. Almost all of these were changed just to add the appearance.

Here we go, new tires, headlight rings, headlights, heater core, weather seals, windshield, rear window trim, decals, carpet, seat covers, headliner, ball joints, A arm  bushings, front shocks, front and rear brakes, front rotors, front brake lines, belts, hoses, door sill plates, door handles inside and outside,  and I am sure many other things I am forgetting. I am reluctant to call this a restoration, but it is as close as you can get to one.

Look at the pictures, they will describe the car better than I can. Although this car is VERY nice it still is a 40 year old car and we all know they could always use a little work. There is nothing about this car that deters from its appearance however I want to mention a few things that the new owner might want to get done. The dash has a few small cracks which are very common with these vehicles. They are NOT big ugly cracks but they do need mentioned. Also, the car does have air conditioning but as of now it is non functioning. I live in a cooler climate and really don't need air so I never had the desire to have it repaired. All gauges work EXCEPT the clock. Another common issue.

I included a pic of the NADA value. I would consider this vehicle better than a 20 footer. My asking price is much less than that listed price. I have the PHS paperwork and will supply it to the winning bidder.

I know I am probably missing some of the details, so if there are any questions please send me an email. I am not by any means a very good photographer. If there is something you would like to see in better detail let me know.  Please only serious bidders.

I will assist in anyway I can with shipping if needed.

This is a used classic vehicle. There is no warranty offered or implied.

A deposit of 10% of the final price needs made within 48 hours of the end of the auction.

Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
