1979 Trans Am 10th Anniversary

I have owned this car for about 7 or 8 years now.  I originally bought the car from a Texas pawn shop.  The shop told me the original owner traded the car for something there at the shop and it was a smallish town as everyone was familiar with the car.  This is the original miles on the car.  Everything is original on the car and the motor has never been removed from the car.  I have many Trans Ams and the time has come for me to sell one or two of them.  They are all kept in a garage at my house and I have probably put less than 1000 miles on this car in the time I have owned it.  I will describe the car as accurately as I can.  I have sold many cars on eBay and have not had a problem with the buyers expectations of the car based on my description.

Exterior- the exterior has been reprinted at some point before I bought the car.  The paint job has held up fine since I have had it.  In 8 years it has not deteriorated much so I assume the paint job is decent quality.  It is not perfect as there are nicks, scrapes and scratches.  Nothing major, probably an 8 out of 10 quality.  Not show quality but a very good driver quality.  I have just had the wheels completely refinished in base coat clear coat paint and the tires are BRAND NEW.  The T-tops still have the storage bags and are in great condition and so are all the seals and weatherstrip.  It looks like they replaced them when they painted it.  The passenger side front grill cracked and a piece is missing (should be able to see in pictures). The other side did the same thing about 4 years ago and I replaced it.  Just haven't gotten around to ordering this side yet.  All the lights work and look good with no yellowing or cracks.  All the glass is good and I had the power antenna replaced for the factory 8-track so it would go up and down as the factory designed.

Interior-  I had the interior done after buying the car and can provide reciepts for new door panels, headliner and carpet.  The seats have the original silver leather and don't have any fading, cracks or tears.  I replaced the console lid and dyed it but the silver dye is starting to come off in a small area (may be able to see in pics?). All the lights, horn, gauges, windows, heat, defrost, seat belts, radio and everything else works on the car.  When I got the car I had it charged with R12 as it had not been converted to the new freon yet and it blew good and cold.  Over the years it has leaked out and I never had it converted to R134 and never found any more R12 to charge it with.  The interior is overall in great condition and I would rate it a 9 or 9.5 out of 10

Drivetrain-  The drivetrain is original to the car.  The motor has never been out of the car and it still shows its factory blue paint well.  You can see a little oil starting to leak from the back of the drivers valve cover but it never leaves and visible oil on the garage floor.  It still starts right up and runs like I imagine it did from the factory with no noises or smoking at all.  When I got the car I went through it completely and replaced all the fluids, belts, brakes, and hoses.  The transmission is also the original however I did have it out of the car.  One day I went out to the garage and noticed a puddle of transmission fluid under the car so I took it in for repair.  It was the front pump seal that was leaking so I had it replaced.  He said the transmission had never been out of the car and that the clutches looked a little dark so I told him to replace whatever it needed even though it had always shifted perfectly and still does.  There is no shift kit or converter in this car so it has a factory feel and goes in and out of all the gears easily.  I have not taken this car on any longer than an hour or so trip, but have never had a problem starting, driving or operating this car in any way.

If you have any questions please let me know.  I'm sure I have left something out or forgotten something and I will update the listing as these things come to mind.

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.
