1970 Pontiac Trans am, RAIII 400 4 barrel, TH 400 Auto, manual windows, air conditioning, tilt wheel, Polar white exterior with Lucerne blue interior, built in Norwood Ohio and lived in the Midwest all of it's life. I have owned this car for 26 years and I am the third owner. I listed the car last year but after several failed buyer attempts I decided to keep it. I have now decided to list one more time in the interest of freeing up garage space. I disassembled this car in 1991 to start a full restoration but that's where it ended. I have realized that I will probably never get back to restoring so here it is. I love this car and I sincerely hope I can sell it to someone who wants to restore it right and bring this car back to life. The world just doesn't have enough 70 TA's. Total production for 1970 was 3,196 and 1,339 Automatics which are actually rarer than 4 spds. This is also an original Air conditioning car which makes it even rarer yet.
The body has some rust issues but is pretty solid overall. The rear quarter panels have been replaced with non OEM replacements however they fit just like the originals, the rear wheelhouses have been replaced with OEM GM outer wheelhouses. The rocker panels and front subframe are solid. The hood and decklid are in great shape, the rear fiberglass tail panel is MIA and the lower tailpanel has some rust holes, The rear frame rails are rusty and the original gas tank is rusty, The doors are excellent rust free, the left fender needs a lower patch and the right fender is pretty solid, Floor pans are pretty solid with one quarter size hole on the left side and the trunk floor is pretty solid as well with a quarter size hole as well. The front radiator support is rusty. The front euro nose is great and the lower front valance is solid. There is also a small hole in the upper rear window channel and the corners of the dash support are rusty( like all of them).
The interior is nice and original.. Seats are nice, carpet is shot, headliner is very nice, dash has small repairable surface defect by left knee area, Original console is very nice, original plastic panels are nice, original gages, dash plate, chrome gage bezels, original am/fm stereo, original door panels in good shape, original formula steering wheel, It's all there.
The original block has a damaged cylinder wall but repairable, excellent #12 heads, orig. intake, shaker w/operable door, orig, carb, distributor, RA111 manifolds, wiring harness all there. Suspension is still intact and car will roll, Trans and rear end have never been out of car, 5 original rally II wheels all there, I have many new parts incl. complete decal package NIB purchased in 1991. My cell is 309-287-4963.. The car is at my home in Illinois, I will try to answer all questions and I'm open to offers. Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series
Mon, 10 Mar 2014NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.
GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod
Fri, 21 Feb 2014There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
