1972 Pontiac Trans Am 455 HO - PHS Documentation - ALL numbers matching - VIN - engine block - transmission - rear end. Car was originally purchased from Ferrar-Bach Pontiac in Los Angeles, CA in November of 1971. It came with the following options: AM Radio (401), Custom Seat Belts (451), Door Edge Guards (492), AirConditioning (582), Unit Ignition (634), Console with Floor Shift (431), Roof Drip Molding (481), Glass Soft Ray all Windows (531), California Test (591), Custom Trim Group (724).

The car remained in the Los Angeles area until 2004 - the second owner of the car had it from 1974 until 2004 - I have over a hundred maintenance receipts dating back to 1972 totaling over $30,000 many of these documenting the mileage and vin number of the car through time including smog inspections etc. The documentation on this car is outstanding.

I would call the condition of this car a number 2 driver condition. The paint and interior were redone in 2005 - 2006 and are outstanding - the engine - transmission - rear end - all have around 33,000 miles since overhaul - I have the  receipts and specs on all of this work. All of the sheet metal on this car appears to be original except for the trunk pan. All gauges - lights - signals - radio - horn - shaker hood - etc. operate as they should. The car goes straight down the road with NO rattles or shakes or pulls. Glass is all excellent - windows go up and down as they should - doors are fantastic - they open and close perfectly - even with the windows up. The fit on this car is excellent - all alignment and gaps on hood, doors, and trunk - great.

This is a very nice car - there were only 1286 Trans Am's built in 1972 - so it should be a good car to drive or show and enjoy and should appreciate over time.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.
