*Special Edition/Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Trans Am (Y82 Code)*

ONE OF 533 MADE WITH T-TOPS!!!  2400 total Special Editions Trans Ams made in 1976; 533 were T-tops (THIS IS A T-TOP CAR!):
  • First year of new style front bumper
  • Last year of the single headlights
  • First year a black Trans Am was made
  • PHS (Pontiac Historic Services) documents included
  • Tires are very good
  • Runs and drives (18mpg highway)
  • Original gold honeycomb rims
  • Factory power windows
  • Edelbrock Four Barrel
  • The car has spent its life between ND and SD.
Work that is needed:
  • The paint is rough and most of the decals are no longer on the car.
  • The left exhaust manifold is cracked and the 2nd from last bolt is broke off.
  • The T-top roof has been cut off and replaced with a hard top.
  • From underneath it looks like there may have been some repair done to the rear.  There is a small hole starting in the trunk pan, and a few inches behind the leaf spring hanger on the passenger side (especially) looks like it needs to be reconstructed or replaced.
  • The original deluxe vinyl seats are now cloth.
  • The dash has been cut to accommodate a CD player.
  • The A/C just quit blowing cold.  I believe the dryer needs to be replaced.
  • I don't believe this is a numbers matching engine because the front stamping is YC.
  • The lower valance and the fairings don't seem to match up.  I am not sure what is right and what is wrong.
Please contact me with any questions or requests for specific pictures you may have.  I'll get back to you with a prompt response.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
