1977 Pontiac Trans Am 6.6 Original Numbers Matching Phs Documented on 2040-cars

Year:1977 Mileage:157517
Location:

I am listing this Trans Am for a friend.  He searched for a solid, clean, original car for years.  He finally found what he was looking for in this TA.  Then before starting any work on it he found out that he and his wife are having twins.  He had heard about a car that was in his town.  It was a one family owned car.  After searching for years, his wife came home one day and said there was a nice muscle car for sale 2 miles from their house.  He immediately went to look at it, and it turned out to be the car he had heard of for all of those years.  It is a 77 TA  with the original 403 motor and turbo hydro trans.  The car wears its original silver color but has had a repaint.  The interior was originally a red bucket with console.  Now it is a black bucket with console.  The floors and trunk are in great condition.  There is a small spot in the trunk the size of a quarter that needs a fix.  The pictures show the area around the rear window and lower quarter that will need attention.  The car was ordered with a ton of options.  Power windows, power locks, tilt wheel, A/C, power disc brakes, and the list goes on.  The window sticker picture shows the complete list.  The original rally 2s are still with the car.  The car rolls on a brand new set of snowflakes wrapped in BFGs.  The wheels and tires were just purchased.  My friend has very mixed emotions about letting this car go.  It is the starting point that he was hoping for with the added bonus of the originality and high options.  He's aware of the potential value of the car when it's finished not to mention the Trans Am cool factor.  Please email any questions you may have.  Also, inspections of the car are welcome.  Good luck.

Looking back at Oprah's free-car giveaway 10 years later

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car.
Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6."

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
