1978 Pontiac Trans Am. This car was in storage for 12 years in a two car garage in Mississippi when I bought it. It was a father and son project that partially got started. I bought it and transported it to my garage where it has also sat untouched for an additional year and a half. I also purchased a gold 1978 trans am parts car and removed all the good parts off of it and they are also included in this auction. Extra Hood, two rust free straight front fenders, extra taillights, turbo 350 trans, extra leaf springs, the entire truck of this car is full of extra parts, some new, like a brake booster and master cylinder, box of new sub frame rubber bushings, etc. also new rear brake drums, new front brake rotors and calipers, extra upper and lower control arms, two extra steering boxes, steering rod, links, tie rods etc. the car has the original numbers matching w72 performance 6.6 liter engine with closed chamber heads stamp code 4., it also has the original factory Borg Warner 4 speed trans. Included also is four other engine blocks and three sets of cylinder heads, one of the set of heads are the casting 62 which are fairly hard to find. two extra intake manifolds both are the older performance non-EGR type. Three engine blocks are 400s and one is a 455. The 455 block is at standard bore as are two of the 400s. The 400 engine block on the engine stand has been at a machine shop and already prepared for rebuild. It also has a newly turned crank that goes to it.  All the extra engine parts I bought, came with the parts car, so I don't know what machine shop did the work, but it is marked and tagged with the needed info. The car itself is in pretty solid condition with the normal rust on the floor panels, and other minor areas. The frame, rocker panels and other areas seem solid. This car is a project and will need to be completely stripped down and rebuilt for proper restoration. The entire interior will need restoration as well. The truck pans are in good shape and around the rear window is solid, the t-top seals were removed for inspection and the metal is solid in that area also. There is a little rust on the front windshield window posts see pics., also when I bought the car, the rear bumper was missing. I suspect it was removed due to a small damaged area on the left rear quarter, see pics. Included is a gold rear bumper from the parts car. Also under the hood, someone removed the brake cylinder, the radiator and shroud, belts etc. not sure why. The engine in the car is not seized and seems to have no oil leaks, although it does have surface rust. The distributor is there but the cap and coil is not. I have not tried to start the engine because of the missing parts. I wasn't worried about it because I originally planed to take everything apart and restore. Also I forgot to mention one set of the cylinder heads are for the 455 they are matching to the block according to the previous owner. Please contact me with any and all questions you may have prior to bidding, I will be happy to answer all inquiries. My goal is to not misrepresent anything and for you to be happy if you are the winning bidder. The winning bidder must pick up the car and all parts locally in Foley Alabama. No shipping. Thank you for looking!

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?
