You are bidding on a solid 1978 Pontiac Trans Am that needs to be finished. The restoration has already started. It is a true Z code 400 automatic trans am. The motor is a 1974 400 and has been completely rebuilt. It runs great. The car has new exhaust, brakes, The car runs and drives great and is ready to drive. The transmission has some type of shift kit in it and you have to shift it manually but there is no slipping of it. I was told that this can be easily fixed. The car was originally brown with a tan interior but was repainted black at some point. The paint job is bad and the car needs to be painted. As far as I can tell, the only rust in the car is the left lower rear quarter panel. I have a picture of that rust. I don't see any other rust in the car with the floor pans and trunk pan all very solid. The interior needs to be redone, however the dash just needs to be dyed and there are no cracks in the dash. I just bought a new seatbelt set that will go with the car at a price of 400.00.I do have a t-top roof panel and T-tops that will go with the car if the buy it now is purchased. I will sell those parts in addition if the buyer wants to purchase them.I do have 3 other types of wheels that can be purchased separately if the buyer chooses. I have the original ralley 2's, a set of 15 x 7 snowflake wheels and a set of 17 x8 snowflake wheels with new tires. Again, I just want to reiterate that the car comes with the weld wheels that are pictured on it in these pictures. If the buyer wants an additional set that are NOT in the pictures then we have 3 other choices of wheels and tires for an additional fee.  I am selling this car at a low reserve and low buy it now. I have about 8,000 in the car as it sits. If the buyer does not want those wheels and tires, we can probably work out something. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call. Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
