Up for auction is a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. This car is 100% rust free. None anywhere could be found. None in the trunk, nor in the floor pans, or in the fender wells. This is an estate auction, and I am selling it for the family. It has an 11-12 year old make over, to include new paint, white and leather seats, white and leather door panels, and after market American racing wheels and tires. The interior is starting to show its age. The carpet has no rips or tears, but is sun faded. It still has the original floor mats. The trim panels next to the rear seats need to be removed and repainted or replaced. The center console is in tact, but could stand to be repainted or replaced. The dash has 2 cracks in it, but is still not too terrible. There is no rips or tears in the seats, and they are still in nice shape, as well as the door panels. The headliner is in excellent condition. The dash panel and instrument cluster are in very nice shape. With a little work and a little money, the interior could be awesome. The body is in great shape, except for some damage on the drivers door. It was estimated to be $400-$600 for repairs and repaint of the door. The rest of the body and paint are still in excellent condition, other than some very minor scratches and a couple of rock chips. The car runs and drives down the highway as well as any 79 Trans Am could. The steering is tight, and the a acceleration is very responsive. The brakes work great and appear to be at least 60% on the fronts. The transmission shifts very smoothly. The drive train appears to be untouched, other than an after market chrome alternator. All the emissions are still intact. The a/c is complete, minus the belt. It's condition is unknown.  The tires have a another summer on them, and will probably need replaced. The car does not burn or leak any fluids. All in All this car is still very impressive as it sits. I estimate another $1000.00 put into it, and somebody is going to have one sweet Bird. The vehicle has 136,000 miles on it but you would not be able to tell the way it starts, runs, and drives. This of course is not a $12,000-$15,000 car, but it has a lot of potential, and the reserve is set at a very reasonable price. Please feel free to ask any questions you can think of, and I will answer them as best I can. I urge anyone thinking of bidding, to come and take it for a ride yourself, and check out its beauty. Thank you for looking.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
