Up for auction is a beautiful example of true American muscle! This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am is a real survivor car. 71,000 original miles. It has been well cared for and well maintained. She runs and drives excellent. This car is turn key and needs nothing but  an ambitious driver.

This car has it all.. T-tops, 6.6 liter, shaker hood scoop, rear spoiler,  real metal louvers in the rear window, CB with magnetic whip antenna, automatic transmission,  4 wheel disk brakes, factory air ( which does not work, it needs the compressor), power windows, cruise control, and Cd player with USB port. or 8 track,  Here is the run down on the car.

The Body...        Lets start off and say that this is an un-restored survivor car. The paint is shiny and has an aged patina. it has a hand full of chips and the usual ware spots on the bumpers.  There is one small dent on the passenger side front fender just under the trim by the door. Other than that no major repair or damage to the body. This car is Rust Free!!  here in Oregon and California where this car came from we do not salt the roads so no rust. The T-top seals are in great shape and do not leak. This does have a branded title out of California. the title in the brand box reads CA DA.  I have had the uni body frame inspected by a body shop and they could not find any problem with the frame and the quarter panels look to be original. I would give the body a 9 and the paint a 8.

The Engine...  this 6.6 liter V8 moves out!  It has a 4 barrel factory quadrajet carb, with edelbrock manifold, headers and brand new dual exhaust. lets not forget about the Shaker hood scoop. The automatic transmission shifts smooth and powerful. She has never let me down very reliable and fast.  body stabilizer mounts on the frame firm up the suspension.

The drive train is in great shape. The limited slip does its job well no problems. Springs are stock and ride great thanks to a newer set of Gabriel gas rider shocks. tires are in great shape about 80%. Brakes work great and are about 60 to 70% front and rear. the master cylinder has recently been replaced. drives straight as an arrow down the road, the alignment is perfect.

Over all... This is a beautiful car and I have made every attempt to represent it for what it is. please feel free to call me about the details of this car. I will drive it to approved shops to be inspected as requested to pre paid appointments. I have sold many cars on eBay and have a great track record. I will ship anywhere and will work with buyers. you will have to arrange the shipping. the car is available in Salem Oregon to be inspected in person with appointment. please call me at 503-999-0817. good luck bidding and email or call please for any questions.  Norm.

GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
