 1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM
10TH ANNIVERSARY

Here is your chance to own a beautiful 10th Anniversary Trans Am.
This car was produced with the sought after Pontiac 400 CID motor that produced 220 HP (much higher than the standard 403 CID Olds engine).  There were only 1817 of these cars produced with this engine and 4-speed transmission.

This car retains its original 400 Big Block that has been freshly rebuilt.  There are maybe 200 miles total on the motor since the rebuild.

The car has been re-painted in a fresh 2 stage paint in it's original color.  All decals have been re-installed to factory specs.

Also new are the a/c compressor, clutch, heater core as well as some of the interior parts.

This is a very clean mostly original car!

Restoration done professionally by Genesis Speed Shop & Restorations in Madison, WI.

The 1979 Pontiac 10th Anniversary Trans Am was another commemorative Firebird, this one marking the first decade of Pontiac's still-successful Pony car. The 10th Anniversary Trans Am was officially priced at around $10,600, but the announced low production and the model's perceived historical significance created a rash of speculation (classified ads appeared shortly after introduction listing $30,000 asking prices).

Equipped with power everything, it also featured a distinctive silver and charcoal paint treatment, T-bar roof with silver-tint glass hatches, silver interior with leather upholstery, the heavy-duty WS-6 handling package, and "Turbo Alloy" wheels designed by John Schinella and made by Appliance.

The Tenth Anniversary Trans Am (TATA) came with the Oldsmobile built 403 V-8 that was standard in the normal versions, but Pontiac had saved some of its own 400-cid V-8s with higher horsepower just for this special birthday model, even though the engine had been dropped for 1979.

Very few 400s were teamed with a four-speed manual gearbox, making this the most desirable drivetrain of the lot.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.

Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.
