1981 Pontiac Trans Am 4 Speed With Build Sheet on 2040-cars
Watchung, New Jersey, United States
You are bidding on an original 1981 Pontiac Trans Am 4-SPEED. This is an original survivor Smokey and the Bandit-like Black Trans Am - NOT A REBUILT WITH REBUILT DRIVE TRAIN. The title has 141,155 miles on it and the cluster reads 89,000. The car was ordered from the factory with the following options WS4 305 V8 4 Barrel duel exhaust with a Munci 4 Speed and Posi-traction rear equipped with front and rear sway bars. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, power windows center console switch. Fisher T-tops with storage bags. Gold Alminum wheels, gold graphic and hood bird, tinted windows and rear spoiler . Some of the body panels were painted over the 32 years of its life but not the whole car. The body and paint are in excellent condition see pics. The hood has signs of age see pics. Some minor dings on the drivers door and a couple chips in the paint behind the front wheels as it doesn't have any mud or stone guards. The trunk floor is solid-no rot . The floors are also solid and the braces too see pics. Fenders are clean. Passenger side fender has a small dimple on the bottom. Overall, the body is remarkable, straight and clean for its age.
The interior is also in great condition. The T-top trim inside plastic has a chip in the corner on each side from removing and setting them back in. Top of the backrest on the rear seat is is showing signs of dry rot and has faded from the sun. The dash has a crack, typical for these cars. The after-market radio does not work. The factory guages work and there are 2 additional after-market gauges in the dash that were never hooked up. It had a 3 angle valve job with new valve guides and seals, new front rotors and brakes. There's a picture of the original build sheet with all the options--too many to list. I will gladly answer any questions to the best of my knowlege. Car runs and shifts good, Its fun to drive and sounds cool! If you want to speak to me in more detail, you can email me for my number. Good Luck Bidding!!!!!!!!! |

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns
Sun, 05 Oct 2014Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
Fri, 26 Aug 2011You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
