Up for Auction is this beautiful 1989 Pontiac Trans am GTA. This is a true GTA with all of the following options:

Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, T-Tops, A/C, AM/FM CD player Radio, Tilt steering wheel, Cruise Control, Factory WS6 Performance Suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes, Factory 9 bolt Australian rear with stock 3:43 gears, Factory Dual cat exhaust,  and a 5 speed manual transmission.

This car was originally equipped with a 5.0L 305 TPI engine. When I purchased this car it had a bad rod bearing due to the previous owner running it low on oil, so I decided to put a 350 TPI motor in instead of rebuilding the 305.

So now the car has a fully rebuilt 350 bored out .30 over to a 355 with less than 8 miles on a fresh motor. Everything on this motor is new, besides being bored .30 over it also received a re-ground crank shaft, new bearings both crank and rod bearings, Moly rings, cam bearings, Cam, Freeze plugs, Timing chain and sprockets, oil pump, All new gaskets, Cut heads,......... Everything was done by a professional engine builder here in my town. I do have all receipts for all work done.

Along with the installation of this fresh motor this car also received a new Water pump, Thermostat, Serpentine belt, Plugs, Wires, PCV Valve, Battery, starter, manifold gaskets, Clutch, re-ground fly wheel, Air filter,  All new gaskets!! No leaks what so ever!, I also replaced all the sensors including coolant temp sensor, Knock Sensor for a 350, Oil Switch, New ESC Module for a 350, Fan switch, Computer chip for a 350, Fully rebuilt Fuel rail with all new O-rings, 8 Brand new Bosch 3 22lb fuel injectors... I might be forgetting something.

I built this car, and put it together as GM would have done it is they offered a 350 with a 5 speed from the factory. All belts, hoses, plug wires are routed like the factory had them, all emissions control went back on the car, everything was done to look like its never been touched, and by looking at it besides being clean and dry, you would never know the motor was changed. I take pride in my work, and don't hack anything!!

The Body of the car is in great shape, all original metal, no rust on body, or underneath, New paint looks great!, doors open and close nicely with no sag.

The Interior is also in very nice shape. No rips in the seats, No cracks in the dash, Nice and clean!. The steering wheel leather was showing its age so that's why there is a steering wheel cover in place. The headliner is starting to show its age a little but its up there and don't look too bad. Other than that the interior is nice, everything works.

The front tires have decent tread life left, the rear will need replacing eventually. That's the way I got the car, and I have spent too much money on this car to afford new tires.

This car runs great, and reliable. Fans come on when they are supposed to, sounds nice tight and smooth. Transmission shifts great.

I have driven this car around the block a few times to check all functions. The car is not registered, that's why I only put 8 miles on it. I just wanted to make sure everything was functioning properly, and break the motor in a little.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.
