I am selling my Jamaica Yellow 1992 Trans Am. This is a true original paint Jamaica Yellow car. Jamaica Yellow is a color that was only offered on Firebirds in 1992, and was only put on a handful of cars. I am not sure of the exact production figures but to the best of my knowledge gathered from reputable sources there were about 35 Trans Ams built in 92 in this color. There were 14 GTAs built and I am not sure if the GTAs are part of the 35 total Trans Ams. Either way, the color is rare. The car is also a very early build car for 1992, it was built on Aug 26 1991 and is the 2600th Firebird built for 1992, possibly one of the first Jamaica Yellow cars.

I bought the car from the original owner in California in 2009. The car has spent it's entire life in southern California and when I bought it I brought it out to Chicago. Since I bought it, I put approximately 3K miles on the car in over 4 years now, all summer time driving and mostly to car shows. The car does have 147K miles on in but you would never guess it from looking at it or driving it. I drove it back from LA to Chicago 2100 miles without a glitch. I have fixed some minor leaks on the car and now it does not even leak anything! Of course the paint is original so there are some chips in the front bumper and on the hood but nothing major. I have spent close to 100 man hours restoring the original paint on this car. Please look at the pictures and you will see that it does not look like it has 147K miles on it. The paint IS all original. I had the car at a number of shows and asked people to guess the mileage on the car by the look of it, most guesses were from 10-40K miles, and these were from other hobbyists. The car looks phenomenal.

The interior is Black Cloth, in very good condition, there are a few cigarette burns on the drivers front seat but they are minor. The seats are not torn, headliner is not sagging. Windows and locks work. Power antenna works! Both headlight motors work.

Mechanically the car drives great, no smoke, not even on startup. It is the 5.7L 350 L98. Auto trans shifts perfectly fine. The front rotors are warped a bit and pulsate so it will need front brakes. The heater core has been bypassed!! PLEASE NOTE that the heater core has leaked in the past and the previous owner looped it out of the cooling system so the car has no heat at this time. I have not fixed it because it does not bother me enough since I only drive the car in the summer.

The car has brand new OER GTA style wheels with all new centercaps. It's sitting on Goodyear GS-C tires that have less than 1K miles on them and are perfect. Everything is stock on the car. The only mod that I made was an aux input into the factory  UX1 cassette player radio only to find out that the radio has dead channels on the right side. So it needs a new radio but the speakers are all new Pioneer factory replacement speakers.

I have been involved with ThirdGens for over 15 years now. One of my previous ThirdGens took first place at the Trans Am Nationals in 2009 in Stock class, that is how meticulous I am about my cars and this one is no different. My username on Thirdgen.org is RPM WOT L 98 if you wanted to research my reputation. This is a beautiful car, in a super rare color, by far my favorite ThirdGen I have ever owned. I am selling the car because I am pretty much out of the hobby, I have been slowly moving out for a few years and have sold all my other hobby cars, saved the best for last. This car has been sitting in climate controlled storage for almost 2 years. I take it out once  a year for an oil change and to get the fluids moving. These pictures here were taken a few days ago, so this is exactly how the car looks and exactly the mileage on it.

Please ask any questions before bidding. The reserve is set fair, I know the market on these cars. Don't let the mileage deter you, I typically would not be too interested in a 147K miles car either, but besides the fact that this car does not look or drive like it has that many miles, it is also super rare and real headturner. The phrase "man when was the last time you saw one of those" is what I hear all the time from people on the street when this car comes out.

Good luck bidding and please ask any questions you might have.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
