My caretaking duties have come to an end with my beloved 356 Porsche Speedster Replica.

This 1957 CMC Speedster Porsche Replica was built, per the previous owner, in 1979. It's a well sorted car, which has served my wife and I very well.  We frequently (every 2 months) drive to Napa (90mi) and Sonoma(105mi) without any problems, ever.

This 1957 Speedster is very tastefully prepared in, per the previous owner, signal red, black top, black 1/4 tonneau, black full tonneau, red/black dash, black carpets, 5 lug wheels w/ Porsche hubcaps, rally running lights (which stay on all-the-time for safety), rally hood straps, and light stone guards. It also had proper seats, stopwatch mounts for time trials and club rallies (I am keeping my working stopwatches, however the "show-non-working" watches will come with the car), shifter trim, dash eyebrow, and door panels prepared with speakers, but doesn't come with a radio. I love the sound of this car, fantastic music.

This car is incredible in person. It's definitely an attention getter. It's just beautiful and will be missed. We're preparing another vehicle for historical races and have run out of room.
This car owns the wood-floored garage. Living at home as a ornament in the garage pup. My personal museum-type piece shared with family and friends.

It is fitted with a 1600 cc Engine, Italian vintage steering wheel (roughly near $2k on its own) and Black Dash Knobs and Shifter Knob. Speedster floormats (not shown, but will come with the car), 12V electrical, four wheel drum brakes, replica took kit, and owner's manual,  Reutter Coachworks fender badge, and many other accents.

I planned to do club rallys with the car, but haven't found any in our area and over the last few years I've fallen in love with Vintage Racing and therefore have decided to build a purpose built race car. So, this car was only used for wine trips with my wife and I. She's been treated very well; both of them.

Titled as a 1957 Porsche making it exempt from emission or smog testing.
Rare -- Comes with YOM plates! Will be transferred to the new owner! ($400 and a lot of work to get)

There's a small tear on the driver's seat (see photos, not really noticeable in person).and there's a small patch in the convertible top.
The gear box works fantastic, no synchro problems or reverse "pop out." It drives smooth and strong. Just a fantastic drive.
Cruise @ 70mph without any problems. I drive max 70 mph, never went above that as I didn't want the RPMs to go too high as I heard it's not good for these engines.

All gauges are working and from a 914. First thing I did was replace the gauges with a set of nicely refreshed gauges. So they work very well.

Being an older build, and from what I was told, restored 10 years ago, I'm not too sure how many miles are on it.
I've done everything I can to make sure she's running well, who wants to be stranded over 100 miles from home, right? So I've made sure it's kept up with oil changes, mechanics, etc, ...

The engine bay is sealed - Most CMCs are not.

I will miss her, but we are only temporary caretakers and now she's ready to be handed off to someone who can continue to care for her.

Evo makes the case for the world's best driving road in Majorca

Tue, 05 Aug 2014

What good is a sports car if you haven't got a great place to drive it? It's a common refrain that we've heard time and time again. But few are as familiar with the problem as they are in the UK, where the number of people, cars on the road and traffic cameras keep growing to conspire against the joy of driving. Leave it to Evo, then, to depart in search of the greatest driving road in the world.
It's a pursuit that's taken the British car mag across Europe, most recently to Romania's Carpathian Mountains where it added the Transalpina Pass to its short list. But its latest journey has taken Evo to the Spanish island of Majorca, where Henry Catchpole found not one, but two spectacular driving roads from behind the wheel of the new Porsche Boxster GTS. We could drone on about the smooth, empty ribbons of twisting tarmac with excellent visibility and panoramic vistas... but you really want to see the video for yourself. Don't miss Evo's previous trip to Romania in the Jaguar F-Type, which we've included below, as well.

Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.

Are you the Porsche Pajun?

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

The prospect of Porsche building a smaller version of the Panamera has been an on-again, off-again proposition as the German automaker seems to go back and forth on the project. Last we heard, Porsche had pushed back the so-called Pajun (shorthand for Panamera Junior) until 2019 at the earliest, but we could be looking at it right here.
The automaker's everything-but-automotive division Porsche Design is working on a luxury condo complex called (simply enough) Porsche Design Tower. It's been three years in the making and will take at least another year or two to complete, but the gist of it is that the 57-floor building will include 132 apartments, each with its own en-suite garage in which the residents' cars will be parked thanks to giant elevators.
Porsche Design released a series of renderings showing what the property will look like once complete. Most of the renderings feature Porsches, of course - production models you can find in any of the brand's showrooms, like the one just 23 miles away in Coral Gables. But one of the renderings of the giant glass elevators shows something rather unusual.
