Greetings!

What we have for sale this Sunday afternoon is a 1960 Porsche 356B Single-Grill Roadster.  This car is a first-year Roadster.  My dad purchased this car in 1979 from its first owner in New Hampshire and trailered it back to our mutual friend's shop in Amherst where Klaus, the owner, promptly bought it from my dad right on the trailer.  It didn't even make it home to our house where I was waiting with my learner's permit!  By the way, Klaus is also the same guy from which I purchased the 1962 Porsche 356B New York City Show Car barn find.  And another 356B and two other MGA roadsters.

The car sat in the back of Klaus' shop for 10 years or so until the car was moved to his house in Lyndeborough, where it then sat until 1998 when I bought the car.  My dad brought it back from New Hampshire to Grass Valley, CA where I surprised him by giving him the car.  And the restoration began but health, time and money issues have slowed the progress of the car to the point where it is now time to sell it on down the road.

The Certificate of Authenticity was ordered last week and should be here soon to verify what the engine/transmission/paint numbers and equipped options really are.  I can tell you the engine did have European heater boxes when I removed the engine, and I still have both the removed engine and removed transmission from the car.
I have both front and rear bumpers, rebuilt front spindles, reupholstered seats, complete correct oatmeal carpet kit, the original top, wheels, gauges, wiring, windshield frame, trunk, doors with window winders, rear decklid, brake drums and all trim pieces.  The windshield is missing.

Most of the rust work is done but the car still needs longitudinals, the rear seat pans replaced and some pieces near the rear suspension center section.

The winner also gets the rotisserie!

Sold as-is.

thanks!
bill

2014 Porsche 911 Targa

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

I've watched the electro-hydraulic roof panel open and close about 73 times in the past hour, but its fascinatingly complicated operation still has me mesmerized. I've concluded that only a German automaker - Porsche, to be more specific - would go through the trouble of engineering a roof system that essentially lifts the entire greenhouse off a vehicle, rearranges its components like a sliding-tile puzzle, and then reassembles all of them seamlessly (sans roof panel) to accurately recreate one of its most famed bodystyles.
The 2014 Porsche 911 Targa is a near-perfect modern interpretation of the automaker's 1965 911 Targa, a semi-convertible bodystyle that represents nearly 13 percent of all 911 models sold since production started 50 years ago. While the early car's roof was purely manual in operation - that's the period-correct way of saying that the driver did all of the muscle work - today's Targa is a completely automated transformation that requires only that the driver hold down a cabin-mounted switch for a mere 19 seconds to let the captivating show run its course.
After studying the Targa's elaborate roof operation at its launch at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, I was sufficiently intrigued. To that end, I traveled one-third of the way around the planet to southern Italy, hoping that the Mediterranean climate would reveal a bit more about the reintroduction of the automaker's iconic sports car.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.

Porsche names new motorsport chief

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

Though it may have expanded into crossovers and sedans, Porsche is still a company with racing at its heart. You might even argue that Cayenne and Panamera sales only serve to fund the company's motorsports activities. Competition-spec 911 coupes still make up a large portion of the grid in any GT racing series, and those activities are presided over by the Porsche GT division (separate from its LMP1 program), which has just announced a changing of the guard.
Porsche's GT unit - which is responsible both for racing models like the 911 RSR and road-going models like the 911 GT3 - has until now been steered by Hartmut Kristen (pictured above, left) in his capacity as Vice President of Motorsport at Porsche AG. During his ten-year tenure, Kristen gave birth to the RS Spyder that competed in the American Le Mans Series and the pioneering 911 GT3 R Hybrid. He also fostered what Porsche characterizes as "arguably the most comprehensive youth development program in motor racing" and saw the marque return to Le Mans last year with a dominant 1-2 class victory.
Kristen, now 59 years old, is leaving the German automaker, but will remain an advisor to the company's R&D department. Taking over as VP of Motorsport will be Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, who has until now been head of the 918 Spyder project (a responsibility he will continue). Walliser (pictured above, right) was previously Porsche's general manager for motorsport strategies and will now be responsible for Porsche's GT projects on and off the track, while Fritz Enzinger continues at the helm of the LMP1 program in pursuit of better results next year than the 919 Hybrid achieved at Le Mans last month.
