True "barn find". Last licensed in 1989. In storage for 25 years. Car I.D. #119220153. Engine I.D. #6290401. Almost
100% certainty that this is the original engine and transaxle, which I would almost bet have never been out of the
car. Buying the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is a mute point considering the engine number completely jibes
with the VIN. This car has some surface rust but overall is quite nice. In comparison to most "barn finds", this
one is quite exceptional. Only real rust bubbles are on the lower portion of the right front fender, and even
they're not really bad. Also both headlight buckets on the inner fender side have minor rust in the bottoms of the
bucket, where the wire grommet was located.
This car has the complete air cleaner assembly, including ducting, which was removed to access the engine I.D.
number mounted on the right side of the crank case. Original Fuchs alloys with an alloy spare rim. I have removed
the fuel tank, which was 3/4's full of odiferous fuel. With a seep in a hose, I HAD to get it away from the car!
The fuel tank will most likely need replacing. The car appears to be 100% complete. The interior needs to be
restored. The dash top has no cracks. The head liner is even in good shape with no rips. Sorry no books, records or
original jack.
The condition of the engine/transmission are unknown. Original miles of 134,300. This car is a great candidate for
a restoration, where the body has very little repairs needed. Original paint color was orange, which for some
reason, it was repainted yellow. The heat exchangers on the engine have pretty much fallen apart and will need to
be changed.
All the glass is good, trim pieces all there. The wood pedal board is in the front trunk, which needs to be
replaced. I have NOT tried to turn the engine over, as I feel it should be oiled up before doing that.
With the car sitting for 25 years, it simply needs to be dismantled and overhauled. Trying to get it running as is,
would be pointless. I can take pictures of any part of this car. It's available for an inspection.

The 2014 Ruf RCT offers rear-drive action with 911 Turbo fun

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Ruf has 37 years of experience of turning Porsches into even higher performance machines. For the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, it's unveiling the RCT, or Ruf Carrera Turbo, which offers power to split the difference between Porsche's 911 Turbo and Turbo S models.
The RCT starts with a unique body kit with a new front air dam and drastically changed rear deck that combines both a small spoiler and air intake. Power is provided by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter flat-six with 525 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque paired to either a seven-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch transmission. That gives the Ruf a 5-hp and 15-lb-ft advantage over Porsche's own Turbo but is still less powerful than the full Turbo S. The RCT sprints to 62 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and to a top speed of 196 mph.
However, the Ruf's big advantage is that it offers buyers the choice of either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while Stuttgart's turbo models are only available spinning all four wheels. The RCT can also offers upgrades like an integrated roll cage and custom suspension packages, should the buyer be so inclined to splash out on racing kit.

Porsche Cayman GT4 speeds back into view

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

We're all familiar with the succession of numbers that follow the letters GT on a hard-core Porsche 911: the GT1 that was Stuttgart's Le Mans contender in the late 90s, the GT2 that packs turbochargers but without the Turbo's all-wheel drive and excess weight, and the naturally aspirated GT3 that's the enthusiast's choice. But a GT4? That's something new, and exactly what Porsche has in store.
Spied testing in Germany once again is the upcoming GT4 version of the Porsche Cayman, set to supersede the existing GTS and take the place of the previous Cayman R at the top of Porsche's junior sports car range. This latest batch of spy shots doesn't show us much more than the last crop, but gives us a much clearer view at what promises to be the most hardcore Cayman to date.
As you can see, the Cayman GT4 packs a much more aggressive aero kit and rolling stock than any version we've seen to date. It's got a lip spoiler, big air dam and GT3-style vent in front of the hood, deep air scoops along the flanks, a set of spindly alloys packing oversized brakes, a diffuser with twin central exhaust tips around back and a rear wing that's likely to be replaced with a sleeker unit before the GT4 reaches production.

Porsche has doubled US sales to women [w/videos]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Porsche is having a good sales year in the US, with 25,129 vehicles delivered year-to-date coming off the automaker's best July sales ever. That's a 31-percent increase over the same period last year (19,253 deliveries). With year-to-date Panamera sales a surprising 36 percent lower than last year, what possibly could be driving Porsche's sales surge? If you answered Cayman and Boxster sales, you're right. But dealerships are noticing another factor: more women are coming in to buy Porsches, CNBC reports, the bulk of whom picked up new Cayenne SUVs. The German automaker's sales to women in the US have more than doubled in the past two years, increasing from 7 percent to 15 percent. This has helped year-to-date Cayenne sales reach 11,082 - 31 percent higher than the same time last year.
Porsche executives have been trying to tap into the women's market, as evidenced in part by the company's move to pick professional tennis player Maria Sharapova as a brand ambassador. Porsche maintains it has not moved to dramatically change its brand image, but it has shown a number of ads in recent years that uncharacteristically emphasize its vehicles' practicality under the "Engineered for Magic. Everyday" banner - some featuring female drivers.
Be sure to watch CNBC's video report on Porsche's female movement below - you'll also find one of the aforementioned Engineered For Magic ads as well as an interesting case study video on the campaign from ad agency Cramer-Krasselt.
