selling our 1974 yellow #117 Porsche 911, built to 911s specs

The car has the smoothest running 2.7 on the streets, as quoted by our local porsche specialist, Randy at Autowerks in Boulder, CO.  The Car has a lot of pluses, and some areas of focus needed.  We are selling to make room in our garage.  We have owned the car since 8/2007, and have invested over $9K into her, mostly with a complete valve job, new brakes, new master cyclinder, new battery, new shocks and struts, new exhaust, new tires, ipod stereo, VDO repair on odometer at 79,344 miles (not clear when stopped), and a long list of smaller additions.  I have very detailed records since 1987, which I have organized into a spreadsheet so you can track what has been done and when to the car.  The car runs and drives extremely well and is very fast for a 2.7.  I have a trickle charger that keeps the battery charged, however without it the battery will run down in 4 weeks of sitting.  I have not located the short, as the trickle charge works fine.  The cold start regulator was repaired and adjusted, but still makes for a tough cold start in the middle of winter, but she always starts.  I only drive the car on Fridays to work in good weather, otherwise she gets waxed and does an odd run to the store on nice weekends and is garaged year round in a climate controlled garage.  The paint is a respray of the correct 117 yellow color which I don't know when it was done, and the right front fender was repainted 8 months ago due to a leaf blower dropping on the fender in the garage (long sad story).  The color match is very impressive, however, you can notice a slight greener tint in low light conditions.  There are some dings, and some chips, some of which I show in the photo's.  The front smile needs some work as the rubber is lumpy and the bumper is well chipped with the white showing though. It is abeautiful car that always gets a lot of attention and runs and drives incredibly well.  For those of you that know the 2.7 Magnesium block engine, it does have the time certs, which is a huge plus when investing in these cars and engines.  It was rebuilt in 1987, records and details attached, to 911s specs, and the valve job done in 2008, included some intake expansion that increased the horsepower of this car immensely.  You will notice on the front photo a small dent in the chrome left headlight frame, I have since replaced this. I am happy to answer all questions and hope the photos, records, and above details help to present a very candid, and accurate description of our special car.  Buyer pays shipment, and delivery from our garage to destination.

Porsche Cayman GTS in track battle with 996 GT3

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Here's your tough question of the day: Would you rather drive a new Porsche Cayman GTS or a slightly older, 996-era Porsche 911 GT3? Certainly, both cars have their plusses. The Cayman is the more modern proposition, sure, but the GT3 is, well, a GT3. So yes, it's a tough decision.
If you're one of the lucky souls that have to make that choice, then this video from Evo should prove pretty helpful. It's a track battle, starring Jethro Bovingdon with a new GTS and an old GT3.
Calling the GTS "fantastically agile" and "fast, but it's also hilariously good fun," Bovingdon bangs home a solid lap time of 1:05.2 before switching to the GT3. It's remarkable to see just how dated the 996-generation 911 looks after viewing the newer Porsche, and from where we sit, it's further proof that the old car's headlights are something that's best forgotten. Styling qualms aside, though, can the GT3 keep up with its racy younger cousin?

The 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona: What we learned, what we saw

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

Two days after the flag dropped on the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, people are still trying to figure out what it might portend for the rest of the season. In 24 hours, two minutes and 24 seconds, 695 laps were completed by the car that crossed the line first. During that time, 67 cars began the race, 18 of them retired. There was that accident, and a red flag. There were supposedly slower classes beating supposedly faster classes. There were 16 caution periods, including that yellow flag. And then there was The Decision. And Then The Uproar. And then The Reversal.
There was also some pretty good racing, so let's have one last look at the weekend. Oh, and there was that 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO Series II...
If you want to skip the reading bits and go to the photos, there's a high-res gallery of 158 images above and a couple more below. Enjoy.

Porsche digitally dissects its 918 Spyder for your viewing pleasure

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

At this point, you'd think we'd know all there is to know about the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder - except what it's like to drive - but Porsche has released a new video giving us a more in-depth look at its new plug-in hypercar all the same. The animated video gives us numerous cutaway looks at the 918 Spyder while giving a visual demonstration of the car's four hybrid driving modes.
Though nowhere near as exciting as watching the 918 blast around the Nürburgring in record time, this new video is nonetheless both interesting and informative. Scroll down to watch the video yourself, and be sure to check out our live gallery of the production version of the car along with a stock gallery.
