See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Excellent driver and good looking SC, presents well, drive anywhere. Vehicle has salvage/rebuilt title from prior minor accident damage. Pictures of pre-repair damage available upon request via email or fax. Overall CG condition. Surface rust bubble at right front headlight, small scrape on right rocker panel, small hood rock ding, mirror road rash as may be expected from regular driver (see images),"

This is an excellent SC in near original stock condition.  Front buckets have been replaced with updated Blue Slate leather seats to match car's exterior and for driving comfort. Original seats available with purchase @ cost of shipping.

Can drive anywhere,  I  have enjoyed driving the car and have averaged ~ 200 miles a week over past 2 years   It has the typical 911 oil drips but otherwise is rock solid and drives exceptionally.

No dash cracks or glass damage.  Original Fuchs, New Toyo Proxes rubber all around (rear tires not mounted as yet).

Sunroof works but is starting to need manual assistance when closing.  All other switched, lights, fog lights and power options work as expected.

As noted herein, car was involved in a minor accident prior to purchase which somehow resulted in a Salvage title being issued.  When you see the pictures, you wouldn't expect that could be possible, but that is the case and primarily the reason this car is priced as it is.

A great value for a rock solid, good looking SC specimen.  Great car for the driver or 911 enthusiast, just won't be a collector's car or show car accordingly.

eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Porsche 928 convertible by Carelli

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

The Porsche 928 was perhaps the consummate European GT of its day. With a powerful front-mounted V8 engine that grew in displacement as the model years went on, it was capable of eating up the miles at triple-digit speeds in great comfort for occupants. It was also an unusual beauty, with its sharp front and curved rear featuring innovative integrated bumpers.
Currently for auction on eBay Motors is one of the rarest 928s you're likely to find, in a handsome combination of Guards Red paint and tan leather interior, though we wouldn't mind a less-showy finish to the factory wheels. According to the seller, this car is one of eight 928 convertibles by Carelli Design, a firm that's still in business.
The auction claims that these cars were made in 1981 as a feasibility study between Carelli and Porsche for a possible production 928 convertible. The seller says he worked at the dealership where the car is said to have been originally sold $103,000. To remove the roof and hide the convertible top, there were significant changes made to the body and interior, including redesigned doors and a completely new trunk. As you can see in the gallery, when down, the top is completely hidden in a very factory-like fashion. When up, it looks slightly awkward, though (and we'd really like to see a rear three-quarter view to check out the blind spots).

Porsche celebrates 5M Facebook fans with crowdsourced one-off 911

Mon, 05 Aug 2013

Porsche's Facebook fan base appears to be accelerating as quickly as the cars it builds. The German automaker has just unveiled a special 911 Carrera 4S designed with crowdsourced input as a way to thank its five million Facebook fans.
The 911 features special Aquablaumetallic paint from Porsche Exclusive, contrasting 20-inch white Carrera S wheels and pinstriping, along with an aero package including a fixed rear wing. Inside, there are unique backlit sill plates and the obligatory dashboard engraving that says "Personally Built by 5 Million Porsche Fans."
As a way to turn at least one virtual thumbs up into its more meaningful physical-world equivalent, Porsche is holding a contest to win the chance to drive the car at Britain's Silverstone racetrack - and bring a friend - and nine lucky runners-up will win 1:43-scale models of the 911. Porsche announces plan to replace 911 GT3 engines

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

About a month back, we reported that Porsche was suspending delivery of its 911 GT3 due to reported incidents of the engine bursting into flames. A few days later, Porsche told owners of the new track-ready models not to drive their cars and had their local dealers pick up the cars in question. Just a couple of days ago, we reported that Porsche was working on a fix, and now we have the official details.
Following an internal investigation prompted by two such incidents, Porsche has confirmed that is has identified the problem as resulting "from a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod." The loose connecting rod, Porsche found, damaged the crankcase, which in turn resulted in oil leaking and then - in at least two cases - igniting.
Our source is unaware of Porsche being contacted by GT3 owners concerned about the impact of a replacement engine on their car's collectibility or resale value.
