The day of picture taking does not show the color well so I added one picture from when I purchased the car and Florida.
Also the color shows much better in the videos;

Up for sale is a 1996 Porsche 911/993 C2 coupe. Beautiful Midnight Blue metallic color and with approx. 45K miles with a salvage title.
This has been my project car and future DE car since 2007. I purchased this car in West palm Beach FL from an ad in the Autotrader.
I purchased the car knowing it had a salvage title from 1999 with 18,599 miles (see Carfax), but after having all original Porsches before I wanted a car I would not be concerned with keeping original.
The individual I purchased the car from was not straight forward on the history so I do not know the history of the car. It is a running project.

The starting price reflects what I believe to be the salvage value of the car: engine+tranmission+rolling chassis.

It is licensed in NC under an emission waiver. The reason for the waiver is a faulty DMU that the local Porsche dealer is unable to read.
The car runs great and the strength of the engine was reason I then drove the car from West Palm Beach to NC (approx 772 miles).
It has never failed to start and leaks no oil.

I no longer can find the time to continue this project.

My ambition was to convert the car to a RS clone. The car has been lowered by a previous owner and the BF Goodrich GForce tires are fairly new.
The car has a new clutch with maybe a 2K miles on it. The transmission shifts well as long as you don't hurry it. Both the steering wheel and shifter have the RS style equipment.
I purchased Sparco Torino seats to replace the originals and have the paqssenger seat installed. I have the drivers side Sparco and all the installation hardware to complete the seat swap.
Interior of the Porsche is gray with black and there is some wear on the seat.  The dashboard is fine as is the carpet.

Overall: The Good.

Strong reliable, engine. (great candidate for a 914-6!).
Good transmission.
Handles great and is fast.
All lights work accept missing passenger side door overhead light switch.
Paint in overall very nice shape.
Brakes work fine but will need rotors and pads at some point.
AC worked up until last year and most likely needs recharge.
The car is road ready and can be driven anywhere.

The Bad. (...but is a Project car).
Salvage title
No factory spare but have a 964 spare.
Spoiler curtain just developed a tear. Speed sensitive spoiler though works fine.
Curb rash on Passenger side wheels
Heat does not work. Passenger side heat exchanger had a hole in it (previous owner). Have replacement exchanger and heater tubes.
Passenger side rear inner fender shroud missing. (removed to drain oil to front exchangers and lost by previous owner)
Curled the bottom lip of the rear bumper cover causing a tear in the cover. Replacement cover provided.
Struts for front and rear lids need replacing.
Radio antennae to windshield is broke (has factory radio).

The price reflects what I believe to be the salvage value of the car: engine+tranmission+rolling chassis.
The car cannot be restored to new condition but those wanting to enjoy a drivable Porsche project car.... it is well worth the money I'm asking plus more.

Before you place a bid please call me or email me with any questions.

The car is sold as is without any warranty. You are welcome to do pre-purchased inspections before the auction ends.

Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Porsche has doubled US sales to women [w/videos]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Porsche is having a good sales year in the US, with 25,129 vehicles delivered year-to-date coming off the automaker's best July sales ever. That's a 31-percent increase over the same period last year (19,253 deliveries). With year-to-date Panamera sales a surprising 36 percent lower than last year, what possibly could be driving Porsche's sales surge? If you answered Cayman and Boxster sales, you're right. But dealerships are noticing another factor: more women are coming in to buy Porsches, CNBC reports, the bulk of whom picked up new Cayenne SUVs. The German automaker's sales to women in the US have more than doubled in the past two years, increasing from 7 percent to 15 percent. This has helped year-to-date Cayenne sales reach 11,082 - 31 percent higher than the same time last year.
Porsche executives have been trying to tap into the women's market, as evidenced in part by the company's move to pick professional tennis player Maria Sharapova as a brand ambassador. Porsche maintains it has not moved to dramatically change its brand image, but it has shown a number of ads in recent years that uncharacteristically emphasize its vehicles' practicality under the "Engineered for Magic. Everyday" banner - some featuring female drivers.
Be sure to watch CNBC's video report on Porsche's female movement below - you'll also find one of the aforementioned Engineered For Magic ads as well as an interesting case study video on the campaign from ad agency Cramer-Krasselt.
