1999 Porsche 911 996 Carrera 2 ($50k+ in upgrades in past 3 yrs

This is a 996 C2 Coupe with LSD, IMS and RMS addressed, Spec 996 race suspension, Fabspeed exhaust, and too many upgrades to list.  It is a great DE car that I drive to work for fun.  The color of the car is a very unique Metallic Black, called Schwarz Black.

The previous owner and I have spent a fortune building the car over the last 3 years.  I have a 3-ring binder with all service records and over $50k+ of receipts since 2010.  Currently the car has 79,xxx miles.  This is my first Porsche and I have decided to move up to a 997.  This is essentially a street-legal Spec 996 racer and could be converted by gutting the interior and adding a roll bar and racing seat.  With work and family obligations, the car only saw 5 days of track time in the last year. For the past 3 years the car has been serviced by two of the best Porsche mechanics in the country, Goldcrest in Atlanta and Ruf Auto Center in Dallas.

The goal was to build a street car that would also be awesome on the track, and we spared few expenses doing so. As you can see from the factory options, excellent condition of the car, and maintenance records we had a great platform to begin.

Porsche Option Codes: Porsche Crest Embossed Seats (XSC), Oval Stainless Pipes (X54), Door Entrance Sills Stainless Steel with Porsche (X70), Gear Lever knob in Aluminum & Leather (X97), Handbrake lever in Aluminum & Leather (x98), Heated Seats (139,340), Locking Differential 40% (220), Traction Control (222), Automatic Limited Slip Differential (224), Automatic Climate Control (424), Rear window wiper (425), 3-Spoke steering wheel (436), Electronic Comfort Seats (437,438), Hi-Fi Package (490), Driver’s Seat Positrol and Lumbar control (537), Seat covers rear Draped Leather (939), Leather Equipment (981), Soft look leather seats (982)

The 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona: What we learned, what we saw

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

Two days after the flag dropped on the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, people are still trying to figure out what it might portend for the rest of the season. In 24 hours, two minutes and 24 seconds, 695 laps were completed by the car that crossed the line first. During that time, 67 cars began the race, 18 of them retired. There was that accident, and a red flag. There were supposedly slower classes beating supposedly faster classes. There were 16 caution periods, including that yellow flag. And then there was The Decision. And Then The Uproar. And then The Reversal.
There was also some pretty good racing, so let's have one last look at the weekend. Oh, and there was that 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO Series II...
If you want to skip the reading bits and go to the photos, there's a high-res gallery of 158 images above and a couple more below. Enjoy.

World Car of the Year finalists announced

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

To say the 2014 Geneva Motor Show was packed full of news is an understatement as big as the show's home at the Palexpo convention center. Despite everything that we were able to cover during this year's show, there's still more coming out of Switzerland, including the announcement of the finalists for the 2014 World Car of the Year Awards.
We reported on the original list of finalists over three weeks ago, and now, that initial list has been pared down to three finalists for each of the five awards. The finalists were announced at a press conference by frequent Autoblog contributor and co-chair of the awards, Matt Davis (above).
The finalists for the overall title of 2014 World Car of the Year are the Audi A3, the BMW 4 Series and the Mazda3. The World Luxury Car of the Year will be either the Bentley Flying Spur, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, while the Performance Car of the Year will be awarded to the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the Ferrari 458 Speciale or the Porsche 911 GT3 (which, um, yeah...).

Porsche ready to pick itself up after Le Mans failure

Mon, 23 Jun 2014

It's safe to say that things for Porsche didn't go quite as well at Le Mans this year as it might have hoped. After a sixteen-year gap, the winningest manufacturer in endurance racing history returned to the Circuit de la Sarthe this year hoping maybe not for outright victory in its first time back, but definitely a strong finish on which it could build on for next year. All the while it undoubtedly hoped its 911s would hold their own in the GT classes.
Unfortunately for Porsche, neither happened. After racing around the clock, and despite actually leading the festivities for some time, the best its 919 Hybrid could manage was an eleventh-place finish, lagging lamentably behind not only the other LMP1s (like the race-winning Audi) but also a handful of LMP2s. Meanwhile the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am titles went to the factory-backed teams of its arch-rivals Ferrari and Aston Martin, respectively.
Not a stellar result, in other words, but Porsche is taking it all in stride - accepting that it has a ways to go while congratulating its vanquishing rivals in the video below. It's good sportsmanship if we've ever seen it. Next year's race starts now.
