1976 PORSCHE 912E

COSMETICALLY RESTORED
139K MILES
CALIFORNIA CAR
ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING ENGINE & TRANS

Available for sale is a 1976 Porsche 912E, with a recent cosmetic restoration and only 139K miles. The 912 has original California blue plates, is originally a California car, and has a clean title with no accidents. In addition to the recent cosmetic restoration, the 912 has extensive service records worth $7K within last 2 years of ownership.

The 1976 912E is a one year only production model. This is car # 1108 of 2099 produced!

The 912 cosmetic restoration was completed in August '13, and consisted of a complete window out, disassembled repaint, with a complete new interior, all new weather stripping and many new parts throughout. The body was straight and clean of damage before repaint (pictures available). The car was originally a Grand Prix White, and has been repainted in the same color. A new windshield has been installed, and all rubber body trim has been replaced or refinished. The original Fuchs 14" wheels have been refinished, and are now fitted with new 4 Yokohama tires.

The interior has been restored in original color scheme. All 4 seats have been reupholstered, new seat foam, new headliner, restored sun visors, new dash, new leather upholstered wheel, and refinished door panels. Interior lights work, all gauges work, and it has been fitted with a CD player and quality speakers. The trunk area is clean, rust free and has been fitted with new carpet. There is NO RUST anywhere on the car, and there was no rust repair needed at beginning of restoration. This is a very solid dry California Porsche!

Mechanically this 912 is very sound with regular documented service in last ownership. The car performs very well, and has been used daily for regular commutes since restoration. The car passed the last smog exceptionally well, doesn't smoke, and has no visible oil leaks! The original transmission has a good clutch, shifts well, except the usual grinding 1st gear until the car worms up. The car has good brakes, great suspension (upgraded to S model tie rods, boots, spacers), and performs very well on the highway at 80mph+. Faulty vacuum advance requires the car to be wormed up a little longer in the morning, and may need to be replaced in the future. The AC is not installed, but parts are included to connect it. The smog pump is not installed but also included. The undercarriage is clean of rust or any corrosion, and is overall a dry car. Some of the recent maintenance includes: replaced distributor and electronic ignition system, valve cover gasket, push rod tube seal, new custom intake boot, engine tin re-fabricated, fuel injection system service, S model tie rods, boots, spacers, new alternator, new front wheel bearings and ball joints, new brake pads, and more. Overall the 912 is a great performing car, with attentive enthusiast maintenance, that looks amazing with new cosmetic restoration!

2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S debut [w/video]

Fri, 03 May 2013

The Turbo S will dispatch the Nürburgring in "well under seven and a half minutes."
Porsche is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its 911 Turbo in the best possible way: by announcing the next-generation of the rear-engined beast. The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S are here, and man oh man, do they seem like the business.

Porsche 911 GT3 dukes it out with MP4-12C on track and GT-R on spectacular roads

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

The Porsche 911 GT3 has always been a favorite among auto journalists and car enthusiasts alike, but with the introduction of the new 991-generation GT3, which is the first GT3 with electric power steering and no manual gearbox option, how does it stack up to the competition from McLaren and Nissan?
Evo's Jethro Bovingdon attempts to answer that question by pitting the rear-engine Porsche against the mid-engine McLaren MP4-12C on a racetrack and the front-engine, all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R on some amazing, twisty European back roads. We won't give away the victor of either comparison, but we will say that, in Evo's test, the McLaren's 141-horsepower advantage doesn't give it as much of an edge over the Porsche on a racetrack as one might think, and the lack of a manual gearbox and the inclusion of electric power steering on the GT3 isn't detrimental to enjoying the car on a back road.
Watch the video below to find out which car Bovingdon prefers on road and track - we think you'll be happy to see him drift around turns every chance he gets.

Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.
