This is a 1974 Porsche 914 with a 1.8L engine and a manual transmission.  124116 miles on the original engine.  P/O parked the car 20 years ago and started to tear it down to do a restoration, but due to job relocation and health related issues was not able to finish it.  It was running when parked (20 years ago), but was stored with a tarp over it for years.  I have boxes of parts (not pictured) to go with what you see here that include brackets, mounting hardware, lights, the headlight covers, interior parts, and some that are shown such as extra front fenders and rear quarters, fog light bumper, dash, etc etc.  There is rust in the usual places for a 914 and this car is a project for sure, but with all the included parts there would not be near as much to acquire as one would think from looking at these pictures, however this car is not 100% complete obviously but does have extras you can sell/trade for parts needed with other 914 owners.  If I were a welder/painter, I would take this on, but I'm selling to help fund my other 914 project that is a 2.0L.  Baby on the way means space must be cleared and my toys have to go so I can have some spending cash to complete the other toys.  This car will come with a clean and clear TN title.  Thanks for viewing!  Pick up in Johnson City, TN but I will work with you if you arrange shipping to meet with them when they come to pick it up.

Driving the million-mile Porsche 356

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

Maybe you've seen or heard about the Porsche 356 with almost one-million miles (though it doesn't look like it), but Petrolicious finally has produced a video to show us what it's like to drive the 982,000-mile car. Guy Newmark's beautiful, dark-blue 1964 356C looks great in motion - much better than in photos - and serves to remind us not only what meticulous car care can do for old classics, but that old Porsches were built to last.
So how fastidious is Newmark about maintaining it? He takes the car to his mechanic of 40 years every 3,000 miles for an oil change and to fix anything that needs attention.
Newmark says his 356 "is everything you could want," and that he finds errands to do just to go drive it. We would, too. The next-best thing is to watch the inspiring video below of the well-traveled Porsche.

Porsche boss admits Panamera's style is offputting

Sat, 11 Oct 2014

"There have been some small mistakes and we will do it better. For example the design could be better." - Matthias Mueller.
The design of the Porsche Panamera has been divisive, to say the least. Pretty much any Porsche with four doors was going to draw the ire of enthusiasts, but the fast-back-style roofline, prominent curves and seemingly never-ending hood have particularly irked some brand loyalists.

Watch the incredibly complicated operation of Porsche's new targa roof

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Despite Porsche having claimed the name, targa tops are nothing new. In addition to the semi-roofless version of the 911, plenty of cars in the past have used removable roof panels - the new Corvette Stingray has one (as have prior generations), and this type of open-air experience has been available on past vehicles like the Pontiac Solstice Coupe and Honda Civic del Sol.
But when Porsche took the top off its brand new 911 Targa here at the Detroit Auto Show, it was indeed cause for pause. Simply put, this is one of the most complicated and intricate electronic roof panel removal techniques we've ever seen, save perhaps, for the setup found on the Japanese-market Civic del Sol from the 1990s.
We won't spoil the video for you, but basically, rather than just the roof panel coming off, the entire rear glass area lifts away the body in order for the small section over the passenger compartment to slide back. This has to be incredibly expensive to repair once it inevitably breaks. And we highly doubt you'll be able to operate this mechanism at any speed.
